There's also no semblance of a #2 dman. Pretty neat huh.
- Just5

I think Kimmo is a #2 dman, Coburn is a #3 dman and the rest are third pairing guys. Grossmann can be 2nd pairing in the right situation and when he's not slumping.

As good as Mez has looked offensively he has looked just as bad defensively. Plus Grossmann will be on the team next year and Mez will not. Let Grossmann play through it.
- youarewrong

That's true. Mez is by far the worst flyer in his own zone right now. He can not separate the puck from the skater no matter what. But still I think Grossman needs a sit down if just to give him a break.

Grossmann will have a nice long sit down called "The Olympic Break".

As bad as he has been recently, I'm more confident that he can turn it around than say, Mez, whose game right now resembles a crack addicted ferret.

THats funny

I don't see Grossmann as the type of player who needs a sit-down to clear his head or get him going. He's the type of players who gives a good effort and needs to play through a slump.

Wouldn't be a bad idea to get him away from Streit. Streit leaves him hanging out to dry sometimes.

That'd be cool.

I think it might behoove the Panthers to be sellers at the deadline. There are so few sellers because of the ridiculous point system. There will be bidding wars for every player.

I don't want the Flyers to be in the same position as last year where they aren't out of it, but their chances aren't great. I want them to be squarely in the playoff hunt or squarely out of it.

Panthers playoff odds are very low at this point. They have some solid pieces to build around. Might be better off collecting picks and/or prospects

- PhillySportsGuy

Again, this will be determined after the next 6 games. But I am all in favor of trading guys like Fleischman, Kulikov, Kopecky, etc... Boyes and Gilbert I'd like to hang on too.

Ha. At least you wont have to worry about loud noises.

Yeah, won't be any snarky Flyers' fans in the crowd.

I have a novel idea. How about the forwards back check? How about they don't leave the zone without giving the defensemen an outlet option? How about the forwards don't miss their assignments in the defensive zone?

We know they can do it.

This is late, but what did you guys think of Giroux's first period penalty against Boston? I couldn't decide if he made a dumb and uneccesary play, or if it was a pathetically weak call by the refs.

I know Meszaros hasn't been great defensively, but neither has Grossmann. I just think Grossmann needs a rest, that's all.

this is a perfect reason why he should be traded now to a team that needs some help w/ scoring from the blueline.....or just hold on to everyone because you never know, and they really aren't THAT bad

Whats the deal with Kulikov? Is he someone with immense potential who just hasn't found it in FLorida or do you think he's never going to be a very good player?

I've seen plenty of number 2's on the ice during this losing skid

No one wants Mez. He would get you a late round pick if anything. If the Flyers are in the playoff hunt, he's better off keeping. You'll need 7 defenseman down the stretch.

When Grossmann is successful, he keeps it simple.

And yeah, Mark Streit needs to be spotted (as some, not me, have been saying for awhile now).

I think if someone wanted Mez, Paul Holmgren would have put Mez on the handlebars of his bike and personally driven him to wherever would take him.

Grossmann is usually reliable and smart, but he just looks so nervous with Streit. He's never been a good stick handler, but he's passing the puck like its a grenade.

I see we are coddling the 35 YOA VL and bumping him up to 2nd line center bc clearly he's earned it while shifting B Schenn to his ineffective wing spot. Clearly this is how you grow and groom young talent
- Just5

Yes, they still try to put a very expensive round peg into the square hole

Why not have the lines like this.

Raffle-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Schenn-Simmonds
Downie/McGinn-Lecavalier-Read
Downie/McGinn-Couturier-Hall/Rinaldo/Rosehill/Me/Used Puck Bag

Everyone would be playing a natural or preferred position. I do not want Coots getting less mins but this lineup would seem to work best for the team as a whole. You could move the wingers around as well. Maybe double shift a set each period or something to get all centers some offensive wingers.

Kulikov over thinks everything he does. You can see it every time he makes a bad pass, or misses the net, or turns the puck over.. he lets it effect him the rest of the night. He can be an amazing player in this league. He is young with tons of potential. BUT, the system here has changed since his arrival. Tallon love the big North American boys on the blue line. Kulikov just doesn't fit the mold.

i think mez in a package would bring more. how much more? i have no idea, and neither does anyone who isn't an nhl gm.
i know you want them to make the playoffs, and i respect that; my hope is for a championship, not another early playoff exit/poss late run that eventually gets derailed by glaring weakness(es). i think they need to acquire picks and prospects and re-build this team so it has a shot at a cup one of these days
