I can't see a team contending for the cup(which is what is going to be going for Vanek)giving up a top four Dman or an NHL goalie(guessing you're referring too a prospect hence the "young" part?). - Cptmjl
Yeah, I don't think anyone who's going to want Vanek for a Cup run is going to give us a proven veteran NHL goaltender, but hopefully someone out there has the next Bernier- a guy who is waiting for his chance, with someone in his way. As I said last night, if we can get that and one of the draft picks back, that would make it less painful- I'd have traded Moulson and a draft pick for a top shelf goaltending prospect in a heartbeat, without hesitation. |

Replace McDonald with Lee - Vukota
I like Lee.. but he needs to work on skating. He is still very slow. |

Why are the only team in the team in the NHL that wants some of their players playing in the minors at the Olympic break... their defense stinks and the one prospect that they do have in deHaan is being sent down...I don't get it... Like I said all along I'm not sure if the Islanders are in it to win... |

I'm just thinking: Reinhart, Pulock, Pokka, de Haan, Hamonic, Pelech, Mayfield.....unless we move one or more of them, he's likely a seven on the best day of his life. - dcb1
That is a bit aggressive... Donovan was fantastic last year in the Bridge.. he isn't killing it in NHL this year but I have not given up on the kid. While I hope you are right about the other prospects.. they are prospects and u just don't know.. especially defensive prospects which usually take longer to develop. |

Says? Vanek himself said he would consider signing here in the offseason.
I strongly believe that if things don't work out with Minny he will come back |

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=442309 Fraser pretty harshly calls Toronto on their b.s. ruling. - niteislander
I think it's hysterical that some people think it was a good call. Just trying to argue. |

Me and history. If we trade him he's not coming back. Total pipe dream, Snow has to try and get him signed now. |

Strome I understand, I actually think it may help his game when he comes back. If DeHaan goes down it's a stupid move. The kid has been our best defenseman. Sending him down to me is almost like throwing in the towel and if it's not perceived by management that way it is beyond stupid. - Cptmjl
agreed...strome could use some tweaking...dehaan has shown that he can play and play a lot of minutes. |

Why? If the guy said he'd consider it himself, why not? Are you saying that the isles won't look his way again or that Vanek is just blowing smoke? |

When he's skating at top speed to try and beat out an icing, it looks like he has a hockey stick up his ass. |

It's obvious that Minnesota is his 1st choice and since they will have the cash to make an offer close to what the isles can offer he will sign there. It's pretty simple. He is saying all the right things and I think he likes it here but its pretty clear if he is not signed by the deadline he is waiting to see what minny can offer |

I can't stand him. Slow, terrible in his own end and just doesn't score enough to justify keeping him in the lineup. Honestly I would rather dress Boulton every night |

The thing is Minny may not have as much cash as one would think
3 RFA (2 key players) this summer will likely receive raises totaling aorund 5-6.5$mill
Yes they lose heatly, but they will need to sign 5 new players also, they too will be around 3 mill
And the next summer they have 5 more RFA, 3 of them key players, Minne will be cap strapped, and if they manage to have them ALL fit under WITH Vanek, then it would be quite amazing.
Simply put, Minne cannot come close to what the Isles can offer, Minne will max out at around 7.25 I believe and even that is hard for them
The Isles still have a shot. |

Agreed, but I don't think that makes it a foregone conclusion he won't be back. As I said, if Minnesota has different plans, he very well could decide based on his experiences that he'll continue here. |

Then again, for all we know, Minnesota isn't even really on his radar and he simply wants to SEE the offers he'll get. Afterall, this is his final big UFA payday, I imagine his agent would be chirping in his ear advising he doesn't take the first deal thrown in front of him. |
