Question:

I just watched Troy yesterday, the movie starring Brad Pitt. In the movie, Paris shoots Achilles in the heel with an arrow, then puts another 4 into him. Yet, Achilles was supposedly immortal, save for his heel. In the actual myth, he's hit only in his ankle, and he dies. How the hell would an arrow to the heel kill someone?

Blood poisoning? Infection?

I don't think were very good trading partners with the Oilers. Both have a large amount of talented young forwards.
- PhillySportsGuy

Sadly, our best (on paper) trading partner is Pittsburgh. They have a surplus of young D, we have a surplus (of sorts) of young O.

I'd be more concerned about being unable to lock down a job in the NHL than being traded several times. Joe Morrow was traded twice in a few months. He still has tremendous value.

Brayden Coburn once had a tough time locking down an NHL job...

Phoenix matches up just as well, and has the added benefit of not being a division rival.

I see Hemsky as being negative value. He just isn't that good for what he commands.
- jmatchett383

I agree. People in Philadelphia would hate Hemsky.

But he HAD the job. Struggling in the NHL at a young age is different than not even making the team.

It's like the BC version of the Magic Bullet Theory? Arrow to ankle, deflects up the leg, turns a corner at the shoulder, straight through the heart.

Nah, he had trouble making the team. And he didn't have Yandle and OEL to contend with.

Haven't you heard? He's terrible.

Braydon Coburn was also a big reach at 9th overall. Lots of potential but fairly raw (see: Morin). He also had an NHL job locked down by 21.

Coburn got the 9-game tryout in his rookie year then went back and had good numbers in the AHL. In his second year, he played 29/44 games in the NHL before being traded.

That's a MUCH faster track than Rundblad.

LOL, I hate the Rangers, Devils and Pens. However if I had been anywhere near good enough to be a 1st round draft pick (or any type of pick ) and the Rangers had picked me, I would happily bank my millions of dollars and put on my Rangers sweater.

Of course in our first practice, I would take out Lundqvist's knees and check Nash from behind!

But what would you do if you decided to finish your College career instead of heading straight to the NHL, and in your last year you had the choice of a) joining the team that drafted you... that looks like they are going to be bad for a long time... or b) become a free-agent and sign where-ever you want, which may include your home-town and your favorite team....

That choice worked out real well for Justin Schultz... I'm sure he's glad he's not sitting on the beach in OC, banging a Playboy bunny, and looking down at the rest of the NHL in the standings.

For every Blake Wheeler and Justin Schultz, there are dozens of top collegiate players who decide to play by the rules. JG has said multiple times that he's not going to be one of those guys, and he only went back to school because he wasn't physically ready (140lbs) and wanted to spend a year with his bro.

I'd put the chances he makes it to FA under 50%. I think it's more like 8% he signs here.

His mother tried to make him immortal by dipping him into the river Styx, which worked, except that she held him by his ankle, therefore leaving his ankle vulnerable.

Right. But my question is why the arrow to the ankle was fatal. I mean, people get cut on their ankle all the time and seldom die.

One variation does say that Paris shoots him in the ankle, thus immobilizing him, and then shoots him fatally. So basically, he was made "mortal' (unable to use his gift of speed) by the arrow to the ankle. But most say it was just an ordinary arrow to the ankle (no poison) and he just basically drops dead a few moments later.
