It's not because he was bad... StL had a changing of the front-office guard (Jarmo K going back to Sweden) and the guys that were left really wanted to pick Tarasenko... Ottawa traded him for a former 3rd-overall pick at a position they desperately needed to fill. - Tomahawk
That 3rd overall pick (fromt he weakest draft in over 10 years) was also ruined by Phoenix management. He's had a rebirth in Ottawa |

Agreed. Even a conditional pick would be worth it. Find out where he wants to sign, and talk to that team/those teams. Try to get something.
By the way, what's the drop-dead date? - jmatchett383
what if hes holding out for the flyers? Anyone think there is some back room talks going on...maybe his parents invited to the snider box...then you get him for free...i mean money is going to be the same no matter where he signs. voracek-giroux-gadreau. |

I think that's considered tampering, and doubt the Flyers would risk it. Not that it doesn't go on, but that would be a bit bold to do something public like that. But if he truly wants to hold out for the Flyers, Calgary would be smart to talk to him and find out, and then try to "shop him around." |

I don't think so. Just because players grew up in certain areas doesn't mean they will choose to go there.

True. That being said, if I were in his position, and the Rags or Devils had my rights, I'd hold out. And really, who wants to play in Western Canada? |

True they can shop him around but it doesnt mean that other teams can get him to sign...god i hope this signs here, reminds a lot of Danny Briere.
im guessing the chances he signs here are @ 65-70%. He is a long time flyers fan btw. |

I know. I'd have a hard time suiting up for those teams. Players say it all changes when they get drafted though |

Well I meant "shop him around" as in try to drive up the asking price of the team he really wants to sign with. |

Yeah, if a team likes you enough, it probably makes you want to do good by them. |

I'd put the chances he makes it to FA under 50%. I think it's more like 8% he signs here. |

Even so, it's not like he was cast off for Matt Walker and a 4th... his having switched addresses a couple of times is no reflection of his quality as a prospect. |

I think Simmonds has a lot of those qualities. Now if he only had Clarke's skill and vision.... |

No it isn't (see: Mark Alt). All I'm saying is that, for some reason, he's had chances and been unable to hold down a job in the only league I'm truly interested in. And until he does, I'm wary of trading a proven commodity for him. If they can trade other unproven commodities (AHL players/non-first-rounders) for him, then I say go for it. |

I'd be more concerned about being unable to lock down a job in the NHL than being traded several times. Joe Morrow was traded twice in a few months. He still has tremendous value. |

LOL, I hate the Rangers, Devils and Pens. However if I had been anywhere near good enough to be a 1st round draft pick (or any type of pick ) and the Rangers had picked me, I would happily bank my millions of dollars and put on my Rangers sweater.
Of course in our first practice, I would take out Lundqvist's knees and check Nash from behind!

Question:
I just watched Troy yesterday, the movie starring Brad Pitt. In the movie, Paris shoots Achilles in the heel with an arrow, then puts another 4 into him. Yet, Achilles was supposedly immortal, save for his heel. In the actual myth, he's hit only in his ankle, and he dies. How the hell would an arrow to the heel kill someone? |

Rumour out there on twitter that Homer wants Ekblad real bad so he would trade Couts and Coburn for Gagner Hemsky and the Oiler's First this year. Any takers? - Daceroni
I dont think thats enough for Edmonton, would probably need to add a piece from the Flyers. Although Hemsky is a UFA if im not mistaken so his value diminishes a bit. |

I don't think were very good trading partners with the Oilers. Both have a large amount of talented young forwards. |

I see Hemsky as being negative value. He just isn't that good for what he commands. |
