My favorite gif of all time is the Ollie jokinen one where he is driving a tractor trailer, trying to run down a little girl on a bicycle. Laugh every time I see it! - Hokeeguy9
Hadn't seen it until tonight, good stuff |

I won't be, I haven't yet mastered the proper timing of a back breaking penalty yet |

Would you trade Maata for Simmonds and Read? We'd take back salary for the remainder of the year in this trade scenario. - PhillySportsGuy
god damn thats tough. i understand an outside opinion would say youre crazy to even hesitate. but i would be so heartbroken to move maata right now. but that would solve forward depth issues once and for all for the immediate future |

My thoughts exactly!! - Hokeeguy9
Though I'm not into trading firsts unless the return is a stud, especially when you would be drafting very high |

Ah yes... Scratch Mezzy... makes sense... Only 3 defenseman with a positive +/- and 2 of them are scratched.
The other is Timonen.
Schenn 6 points in 50 games and a -8
Grossman 10 points in 52 games and a -11
Coburn 10 points in 53 games and a -6
Mez 15 points in 32 games and a +1... Obviously he's the one who sits after carrying the offensive side of the D on his back for weeks...
Meanwhile Luke Schenn plays like a turd and is a regular in the lineup. He was scratched earlier... didn't get better.. and stayed in the lineup.
Same coach. Same lame ass bullpoop. - Flyersgod
Mez's value is sky high and he's made of glass, so maybe they are just protecting their assets |

Both guys are signed to reasonable deals for a while. Both can play all over the top 9 and Read kills penalties and has a right handed shot.
I love both of those guys but Maata looks like a very good defenseman in the making. |

Creepiest (frank)ing guy ever - PhillySportsGuy and somewhere along the line he really (frank)ed up, otherwise how do you explain the constant onslaught of GIFs geared towards his humiliation? |

Hamilton already has an offensive game. He's 6'6 and can skate. Some defensive growth and he may end up being that coveted #1 dman.
At worst he's a top 4 guy with a decent two-way game. |

Why trade read and Simmonds?? They are two if very few who still play like they want it and can skate |

definitely man. you dont have to sell me hard on those two. i lust after them both pretty heavily. both would literally be perfect on the pens. young, and under good deals for at least a little while.
i wont play into the lidstrom comparisons, but maata literally is exuding young stud defender right now. in a year or two's time, he may be close to another young swede in the league down in phoenix. he literally could be exactly what the flyers need. |

He's such an obscure person to have so many gifs. You can understand Carcillo, but Jokinen is just strange. |

Gotta give to get. Maata could end up being real good. As much as I love Simmer and Read, they are both replaceable. Maata may end up being irreplaceable. |

well then why trade maata? i know its early, but you cant tell me the thought of someone that young looking this good right now, at the seemingly impossible position of two way defender, doesnt command quality in return |

I know. We were having the discussion earlier that the Flyers and Pens are probably the best trading partners. |

they really are though. you cant really find much more need based returns then guys like simmonds and read for the pens and guys like maata, despres, and pouliot for the flyers |

Unless it's part of a much bigger deal, I'm out. While read may be replaceable, who do you use at power forward? Hartnell? He's too busy falling down and thinking he's the new Gretzky ever since his 30 goal season |

Flyers prospect Leier plays for Portland with Pouliot so I track his games. Pouliot looks like a very good offensive defenseman. I haven't had the chance to see him that much. I know Portland is stacked too. |

You know what you have in read and Simmonds. Maatta hasn't proven anything yet. He may well end up being a terrific player, but to trade players in their prime years for unproven guys, doesn't make sense unless you have other players to fill the void. Why create one problem while fixing one? |

There are guys in FA who can serve the role of PF. Hartnell has done it in the past and at times this season.
I'm not saying Simmonds and Read aren't important to the team. I just think acquiring a guy like Maata would be great for the future of this franchise. He's just what we would need. |

Its not without risk, but it has tremendous upside. Maata could be a top pairing defenseman. |
