Ok, here's a good poll question then:
You have first pick in he draft. In this same year, Crosby, Malkin, and ovechkin are in it. Who would you select?

- Hokeeguy9

Malkin.

yeah. i think shero is definitely one of the better GMs out there. but those picks werent exactly strokes of genius.
- stayinthefnnet

And I didn't intend to slag Shero, as a GM.

But those draft picks? C'mon. In the parlance of fantasy football, he could have left his account on "auto draft" and gotten those right.

biased or not, i say Crosby ten out of ten times. and yet i will concede he is the least physically gifted of the three.
- stayinthefnnet

Not being disrespectful, but I think you may have hit your head. I would pick ovechkin first, Malkin second, and Crosby third. Given the same level of talent surrounding them, I think the other two are way ahead.....but that's why they are opinions, and I respect yours

Crosby and its not even close for me. Just watch him tonight. He's incredible. Creates scoring chances on a shift by shift basis.

Crosby, for lots of reasons.

Not the least of which is, there will never be anyone on the phone for him with a Russian surname begging him to come back home and play in a second rate league while throwing gobs of (tax free) natural gas money at him.

totally agree. but like i said, other than recently (the jury is still out but the returns look promising) you cant really say hes been a great drafter other than the layups.

I think you may have hit your head. Ovechkin hangs out by the circle and waits for a pass. He's the best shooter in the league, but can't hold Crosby's jock in all around play. Ovechkin may not even be in my top 10 players. He's a goal scorer and nothing else.

It really doesn't even matter who he plays with.

Kunitz and Dupuis should be tithing to Sid, IMO.

I still think he's put together too much of a finesse team. If you guys end up meeting the B's in the conference finals, it could be a rough go of it.

I don't even think it would matter who got out of a Pens - B's series. I don't know if there'd be anything left for the Finals.

Kunitz is a nice little player. A very nice complimentary piece to a star like Crosby. I've always felt Dupuis has reaped the benefits of being Sid's good friend. He's really a third liner in my eyes.

no offense taken, and i respect yours as well. i could go on for pages about this, and dont want to clog your board with too much pro crosby ranting, but to me it really is an easy decision. malkin and ovechkin, for all their physical prowess, both take plays off from time to time. crosby is likely the hardest working player in the league. he doesnt have the raw skill of the other two, but he is hardly a scrub. his vision and intelligence, combined with his insane drive not only make him the player he is, but allows him to elevate those around him. for all of his individual accomplishments, ovechkin does not make those around him better in the same way that crosby does.

I did hit my head!! All these years in a hockey helmet, and I thought it was for actually playing the game for 20 years! Who knew....except mom!

if the Bruins and Pens meet in the playoffs, I feel like the Bruins would dispatch of them within 6 games at the most. Bruins are a very tough matchup for the Pens.

Bruins are tough for anybody. They are a team built for the grind of the playoffs. I (frank)ing hate Boston. I'm jealous of all of their teams! (That includes New England, Jmatchett)

definitely a valid concern. the Bs will always be a tough out for anybody in the playoffs. it will never be an easy task to dispatch them, but i think a healthy pens squad would have as good a chance as any.

Good for you. I just don't see how you can compare Crosby and Ovechkin. They aren't even close.

Guys like Toews, Datsyuk, Malkin, Tavares, are all far better than Ovechkin.

i respect dupuis a ton. skates hard and fast, plays defense. that being said, if crosby ever did get a true sniper on his other side, it would be ridiculous. the few games in which they trotted out crosby neal and kunitz, that line pretty much at the puck on a string.

That is where I TOTALLY AGREE! The pens will meet the Bruins in the conference finals again (barring some crazy trades or injuries) and the B's will beat them up over a seven game series.

Other than crosby, i honestly am starting to get to the point where Tavares would be my number 2 over malkin. and again, for what its worth, i think malkin is the most phyically gifted person in the league.

You're right, but I do think Pittsburgh has some sandpaper. Just not as much as Boston.

I think with Pittsburgh, they can't get drawn into a physical series and try to match Boston. If they stay with what they do and don't get drawn into some weird "we'll show you we can hit too" kind of series, it'll be pretty even.

But even at that, anyone who plays Boston is going to take some lumps.

I don't like Tavares all around game as much yet. I think he plays well against the Pens because he's much better in an open, offensive game.

Edit: THat being said, he is definitely one of the top 5 players in the league.

i also think he still has a little ways to go before he has hit his ceiling.
