value wise, the iginla deal really wasnt that bad. the morrow/morrow swap, definitely makes me question a lot of things. morrow was highly touted at one point, but supposedly has free fallen. the murray one really sucked.

if the islanders can get a few more pieces and become very good, JT should be getting loads of publicity.

Is he signed long term? Because they need to lock him up. If this thing doesn't get any better, I could see him jumping ship.

Couldn't the NHL find a better game than Pitt/Buf for the 7:30 time frame? I'd much rather see NYI/BOS or even CAR/CBJ. At least the second game is a very good one.

I think its in Maguires contract, he gets to drool over Sid in person at least 3 times a month.

Iginla chose the Pens. Thats why you got a great deal for him. Has Morrow fallen out of favor? He was involved in the Seguin deal.

You'd think the league would like to plug some other superstars besides Ovechkin and Crosby at this point.

I wish the NHL would try to schedule good games when they will be nationally televised. As much as I lament the NBA, they always seem to have solid match ups on during their nationally televised games. They would never be showing Heat vs. Sixers on National TV.

You'd think they'd try to market guys like Toews and Kane a bit more

maybe because he's also the best player in the league?

just a guess.

- FlyerGuy

If we are talking best players in the league, I would think that ovechkin in his prime would have an argument to that. He is much more talented individually, but him having a language barrier won't help him, and Crosby has a much better supporting cast

at least a few more years. for something egregiously cheap for like 5 something a year. hes under until hes 27 or so i believe. granted, his next deal he is going to break the bank, but for the foreseeable future, it is heads and shoulders away as the leagues best deal

i wont claim to know everything there is to know, but supposedly he was falling down the depth chart for the pens and that they didnt feel he was indispensable anymore. then to be so quickly traded again, and he hasnt really gotten a shot in boston despite a lot of defensive injuries. definitely could be just a bit of hopeful justification though. it wasnt long ago at all that he was a stud prospect. and even a shot on the dartboard in the form of joe morrow is better than brendan right now.

His body of work speaks for itself. No GM is perfect. Look at how they have drafted!

if ovechkin is already deemed to be "out of his prime", that should be all there needs to be said to put the OV/crosby debate to bed once and for all.

honestly, up until recently, the drafting has been pretty average at best. he's made his impact through transactions and signings. granted, he inherited some damn good parts, but hes done nothing but make things better overall

Pronouncing Toews correctly would make people's heads explode, and marketing Kane would lose the NHL the valuable cab driver market.

Even though he is the pens GM, I look at his body of work, trades, draft, etc. and compare it to the other GM's. He's done a terrific job

yeah. i think shero is definitely one of the better GMs out there. but those picks werent exactly strokes of genius.

definitely. and i can always appreciate tipping the cap when its due, even if begrudgingly to a rival. hell, im probably more positive towards the flyers than most on here. id still say that only recently are his draft picks starting to catch up with the rest of his endeavors though. granted, not everything can be the neal trade

talent wise, i think OV has it. he is an absolute monster. shoots better than stamkos and can hit like chara. the only player i think with a better pure skill set is malkin.

But he kept them and made good picks! Hello? He could have used all of them on aging vets to long term contracts with no movement clauses like another GM close to home

haha hey im not going to argue too heavily in a condemnation of shero's efforts. like i said, i think hes fantastic. but if you look at his draft classes prior to the last 2 or so, he really hasnt had any slam dunks. granted, he's been picking in the bottom portions of the first mostly, but thats never stopped guys like Ken Holland. his transactions have been inexplicably good though. the neal/nisky for gogo is just dumb. the kunitz acquisition for scrub ryan whitney was huge too. guerin, jokinen (with carolina paying half his salary). perhaps one of his biggest FA blunders was michalek, who they were able to ship off anyway.

but still, my point is that prior to this new crop of guys with despres, harrington, pouliott, maatta, ect., his drafting was pretty lukewarm

Ok, here's a good poll question then:
You have first pick in he draft. In this same year, Crosby, Malkin, and ovechkin are in it. Who would you select?

biased or not, i say Crosby ten out of ten times. and yet i will concede he is the least physically gifted of the three.
