Would you rather live with drug-riddled hippies (SF) or smug-riddled hipsters (Philly)?
- jmatchett383

Both have good Italian food. It's tough to say.

I really like living and working so close to the city, but not actually living in the city.

I'd probably pick the situation I have now. I can enjoy the city when I want, but I can live where the schools are really good (I have a 7 YO).

no it's not is a poopland you have to deal with people protesting the stupidiest crap most of those kids smell like complete ass on the bus and they're taking up space in a cramped city that could be used for people that really want to contribute to society

Oh I love it. I've had 12 years of Catholic schooling, plus 18 years of Church... I whipe my porch with them, and thier ideals... its a game.

Last time I went to church regularly was when my ex and I were dating. Her family went through some rough stuff early on and her mom couldn't go to church, so I ended up taking my ex (she was the Sunday school accountant). Everyone there was very nice to me. Once they found out I wasn't religious, they turned on me and would blatantly ignore me past exchanging pleasantries. The pastor, who was a very nice man in general, was pretty rude as well.

You do realize you don't have to live there. You don't need a visa to work outside of San Francisco

Give me gun toting rednecks (elkton)
- youarewrong

I was at some sports bar right next to the 95 entrance on 896 for lunch about a year ago. Nothing but big fat dudes wearing flannel. I went on some tirade about guns/religion/everything else I don't like that gets tagged on to the actual political/economic ideals of the Republican party. My buddy told me that I got so many death stares, that one guy actually came up behind me to hear what i was saying, and that he feared for his life (especially since he's a Muslim).

I was raised Jewish, but I can't imagine that happening (Not saying your lying). In fact we had discussions about the existence of god during hebrew school. Teachers and staff always respected our opinion (I've always been atheist) and never treated me poorly.

Which is fine, but you seem to act like every straight edge person is this militant guy who goes around looking to fight or talk down to anyone who drinks a beer. I've met about 2 people like that over my entire life.
- jmatchett383

The vegans, riot grrls and sxe kids I knew growing up in the mid 90's were militant and preachy as hell... maybe later generations softened up a bit, but damn were those people in your ear 24/7.

I "claimed" straight edge when I was 14 (first chance I really had to get f'ed up), so that would be 1997. I had a lot of older friends who were sxe and vegan, but were pretty cool about it, from what I remember.

I love people railing on hipsters and hippies, but then follow them right into those 'up-and-coming' neighborhoods that the hipsters/hippes essentially pre-gentrified for them.

If I didn't have a kid to raise, I'd probably seriously consider living somewhere like NoLibs.
