It's obvious Marty isn't close to being the workhorse he once was, and after yesterday's disaster i'm sure he can see the writing on the wall.
It's time to move on with Corey and hopefully Marty won't be selfish; accept his new role as a backup and let the transition move along smoothly.
I would have no problem with him staying next year as long as it's strictly a backup role.
Corey could learn a lot from him being around another year.

I would just rather move on from the whole situation. It will be another dog and pony show he will still have to get all the games in MTL and it will be another big tour because he didn't hang them up this year. I really hope he just retires and gets a cushy job in the org where he can still go out and practice with the boys whenever he wants.

I would agree with you, but this is Marty we're talking about. He won't allow the Devils to use him as a backup. I'd say we should trade him but after yesterday, no one in their right mind would want him as a rental at that cap hit. Our best case scenario is that he either retires or moves on to another team this offseason. We can only hope.

Out of our next 6 games the only teams that get me excited are Nashville and Edmonton. We really needed those two points yesterday with St.Louis looking to give us a beat down for the one we gave them and Dallas likely doing better Colorado is going to be very hard to keep up with again and Washington with have Ovie back so they will be dangerous and looking to make up on lost ground. We need at least 4 wins out of our next six games just to stay a float everyone around us is picking it up.

The thing that gets me is Marty said the ice was the worst he's played on, but wasn't this the same ice he practiced on the day before?
Now i get the whole thing about playing outdoors but you got to do whats best for the team and considering how big this game was for us if he knew the ice would be an issue then he should have let coach know and sat his ass on the bench.

Just because you go over odd man rushes in practice, doesn't mean you have to allow for them on every play.

Find it funny how they where saying before the game how this was the best ice conditions they have had and the weather couldn't of been more perfect for it. He treated it exactly like a gimmick game because that's exactly what the NJ Devils made it into by giving him the game.

I think we're all forgetting that Brodeur has NEVER EVER been good when he doesn't play often. He's notorious for having rough starts to the season, and not playing good when not playing often. 3 goals were off skates and one was off his own helmet. It is what it is.

Really I think everyone is blowing this out of proportion because of the stage it was on and the embarrassment the Devils suffered. The defense is more of an issue than Brodeur. WMarty's confidence may have been messed with a little, but this isn't on him.

How is it blowing it out of portion but saying he HAS to play in that game wasn't blowing it out of proportion? 90% of you said this game had to be Marty's and why ? because of things he has done ? Well they have lots of events for great players after they retire that he didn't NEED this game. The NJ Devils NEEDED to win that game a lot more then Marty Needed to play in it. That's how I see it.

Just for the record I never said this needed to be Marty's game. However I did say that he would get the start.

What's the deal with Adam Larsson? Is he still injured? Is he progressing well or can he be had in a trade?

Yea I didn't doubt he would get it either but I didn't see why he needed to play or why it would be a travesty if he didn't get that game. Some people think we just can afford to give up 2 points whenever some game comes up that Marty NEEDS to play in. In all honesty I have totally had enough of this crap it's this exact stuff that holds the organization back. They have this mentality where it's ok to give up 2 points as long as it's for a life long Devil. I dn't know about anyone else but I don't like watching my favorite team lose no matter who is in net especially when we are sitting outside of the play off picture. Wish they would be as loyal to the fans of the team has they are to these players who aren't as good as other ones....

Salvador, Volchenkov and Harrold is what's wrong with Larsson. All are unmovable all but Harrold have horrid contracts and all of them are worse then Larsson. Harrold is Deboers favorite player, Sal is Captain for some unknown reason and Volchenkov has a NTC

i'm not talking about saying he had to play the game. He's had some good starts for us. I'd say more good than not good. I had no problem with him starting.
I'm saying blaming the loss on Brodeur and not focusing so much on him, when he was never good when not playing consistently, 3 goals were off of our D's skates, we allowed how many 2-1s and 3-1s? one goal was off his helmet. AND it was outdoors. This isn't on Marty.

Let's keep yelling about Salvador, tho.

It's not all on him but goalies are back there to make saves it's their jobs. Somtimes poop happens and work and your fellow employees drop the ball doesn't mean you do to or that you don't get any fault because everyone else did to. He lets in soft goals just about every single game he has played in this year it doesn't matter if he has ended up with the W or not the main thing is he is good for one soft goal a game and soft goals are back breakers. He doesn't let that second goal in that was very weak then who knows what happens point is he is rarely there when the team needs him to make a save. Now in regards to every other player. The best players should be playing regardless or age, contract size or length, which letter they have on their jersey or how long they have been here. Way to many players getting free passes while the ones who rarely play and get 1 game every 2 weeks take the blame and don't get to play because of all this loyalty crap. We need to win games right now there will be a time and place to honor Broduer and eveything he has done and accomplished for this team but right now isn't.

i know it has no effect on the game, but can the devils STOP wearing the rita's ice cream jerseys? why in the world would the devils want to remember the early 80s teams that were probably the worst team in sports. plus it seems like every time they wear these jerseys they play like the early 80s teams.

He's been exiled to Albany, every time Lou tries to call him up Peter Harrold stops him.

I agree. Marty played like crap and Schneider should have been starting all season, but Marty hasn't been a problem all season. The bigger problems right now are that Sal and Atrain are still in the lineup and we don't have any offense.

just think how much better the D is if we swapped Salvador for Larsson. Pylon in exchange for transition game.
