Look at it this way Mo. The more the merrier. It keeps the cap going up. Woh dat with dem there hips? - Elbows15
I don't mind them and the money is great, but the rarity helps sell them. At some point the newness will wear off. But I am happy to be watching. |

They need to do a better job of getting more teams involved. That will keep it fresh. Natural rivals too. |

Did you guys flood the viaduct too for a pool when you opened the hydrant? |

I can see the point on overkill. I do find the LA one interesting because it is different than the northern games. Once they have played in the good venues from football and baseball I think it will begin to play itself out. - mohel
They're becoming addicted to the revenues - 100,000 at the Big House, 55,000 in LA, 65,000 at Soldier Field - at premium prices - plus NBC likes it. |

no but we did open some hydrants in the summer...there were actually train tracks atop our viaduct...trains would come by slowly...we would yell to the guy in the caboose, " got any flares" and most of the time they would throw some down... |

Da (frank) is ledge ball? you mean pinners? You guys bought the wrong rubber balls. There were two brands. The ones that had major league on them were poop. There was another brand that were the tits. Last forever. - Elbows15[/quote
Are you thinking of "pinky" balls. They would go a mile. However, they were mighty painful when you got hit by a line drive. In our neighborhood it was called ledge ball. You had had one batter who would pound the ball against a low ledge of a brick building. if you aim the pinkie ball just right on the angle of the ledge the ball would take off like a rocket. We had an infielder about15 ft from the lege to catch the missiles and an outfielder about 30 ft away to catch the long ball . |

No not the pick ones. Totally different. We called it pinners in our neighborhood. Its the same game. The rubber balls we used were just like the ones you used. They were a different brand. They were way better than the ones sold at Woolworth's. Can't recall the name though. They sold them at the local grocery store. The balls were durable and lasted forever. We just liked them bright white. There usually was a clunker in the box. You just had to test them out in the store to avoid buying that one.
Edit: We used the same rubber ball to play pinners and fast pitch. |

if I remember correctly the pink balls weren't solid, had air inside..the others were solid rubber...after a while they would crack but never break in half.. |

Our two man game was Home Run Derby on the tennis courts - overhand fast pitch with a 12 in soft ball. |

Yep. Exactly Glen. And the solid ones were made by two different companies. One was really cheap and last an inning. The other were about as durable as a league ball. Lasted forever or until some schmuck hit a foul ball onto a roof. |

And tape. Remember yelling at a kid about the label? It had to be facing you or else the bat was going to break for sure. I still have my Willie Mays model. What a sweet bat. Has a nice thin handle. Hated the freaking bats that the thicker handle.
The places that bat has been. |

Had a guy on my hockey team whose dad did this to his stick. The refs gave him a penalty on the opening draw and took his stick away. |

You are right, the pink balls had air inside and slightly smaller and lighter but went further. We use to play also baseball in the ally's using a very beat up old clincher. The game lasted untill somebody smashed a line drive into a garage window and everybody scrambled, The roof of the garages was considered fair play. A lot of older people got the cops after us for playing in the alley. |

The only tennis courts were at the parks in the city. Its where, as my Dad would call them, the hopheads were. |

Clearly remember that - always made sure the Louisville Slugger oval faced me.
Wonder if that was really necessary b |

Just caught up on back-reading the past several hours of this thread, and you guys are phucked up! But I'm pissed I missed it! The cool thing - I don't believe I saw Jack Nicholson, which surprised me a bit. And "Hudson three two seven hundred" to all of you (apologies if it was posted and I missed it). Again, what a bunch..... - mohel
Hudson three two seven hundred? yeah I think that was the one with the big truck moving at the bottom of the screen. |
