I don't think Holmgren gets whacked until the season is over, and then only if they miss the playoffs.

I'm not excited by the prospect of Hextall coming in, either. I'm not sold he'll bring the change in philosophy needed.

- Jsaquella

Not Whacked, steps down, if not coming to the realization he's taken a cup finals team to the middle of the pack in 3 years on his own, then maybe its suggested to him behind the scenes
AND

Hextall has to get the benefit of the doubt, he left & contributed to a cup winner, he wasn't here the entire time.

Even if he wanted to bring in a change of mindset, he would somehow have to convince the aging Ed Snider to be comfortable with it.

Well, as Asst GM of the Kings, they whiffed pretty badly on two top ten draft picks(Hickey & Teubert). Plus the VandeVelde signing was his baby.

Ed Snider seems about as open minded as my 89 yoa grandfather who wants to reintroduce segregation

He wasn't brought back here, (and agreed to come back), to fetch lunch everyday, he had to agree to come back for a reason

True but I'm sure they hit on some late round picks to somewhat balance it out.

It doesn't matter you know he wouldn't be my pick as the next GM

I have no idea, I'm sure they said at the very least he'd be considered for the position.

jesus, I guess whatever light I thought we had may not even exist

Well just not sure what they can do to get them to play better team defense & land at least 2 new d-men.

The draft & develop may not be a popular way to go for many

They're going to need to replace Timonen & Meszaros anyhow. They could sign one and trade for another, might need to wait for summer.

They have to avoid the short term, knee jerk fix. I'd prefer a young guy, but I'd be willing to consider a guy like Byfuglien, who is still under 30 and signed for a couple years.

Yes, cost is an issue, and it will be a determining factor.

The team defense has to come from the forwards. But they also need a defenseman that can skate out of his own end with the puck and get a shot on goal from the point

It's a bitter pill to swallow, having my eyes opened, truly opened, to what this defense truly is. I thought they might be able to pull off some kind of minor miracle, pop this team into contention this year or, at worst, next year.

I honestly had hope they could. Believed they could.

They can't. Not with this defense or the options available to them. There's no free agents out there who are going to help. Kimmo Timonen's retirement is going to leave a gaping hole in an already suspect defense, with the potential to make Coburn regress to where he was last year. You only open up gaping holes in the forward corps if you address it that way, because none of the Adirondack forwards appear to be impact forwards, at least right now.

There isn't a single defenseman in Adirondack who it is reasonable to expect to make a difference next year. It would be nice, amazing, if Alt or Ghost or someone made that jump with confidence, grace and production.

But more likely than not, they're going to look like the rookies they are, if they even make the team.

It is going to take years to fix this poop.

Buf causes more problems than he solves...there arent any easy fixes to this team..half the forwards have NMC, why the hell should they do more work.

Actually, he solves more problems than he causes. When you have so called defnsive defensemen turning the puck over, where' the harm in a guy like Byfuglien, who can actually move the puck and provide offense?

Nope, let's stick with Grossmann and pretend that blocking shots is good defense.

What I don't get is anyone that suggests Hextall, Poulin or anyone else that knows the Flyers should be the next GM.

Lets go a different route because the Flyers system hasn't won a cup. Yes they are normally in the playoffs every year. That's great, time to move on.

Buf solves problems? I thought his attitude and work ethic are always in question...Some nights he just takes completely off. You really want another lazy guy on this team? so who would you give up for big buf?
