Yet lets all suck the BS that's fed our way. Morin, to make ourselves feel better may develop into something great, but he is a shutdown guy, or projected to be one.
The Flyers had a choice to take a more offensive player, say Morrissey the kind of guys that are actually rare in the game today. Nope lets go with the big bruiser.
They also had a chance at taking Maata instead of Laughton, but hell no, lets ignore the D even more. Hamilton over Couturier? Nobody hates Coots, but you had another chance to address the D and ignored it.
Traded Carter and Richards? Not one real d-man back in those deals.
They put themselves in this mess, and while a lot of fans, and parts of this post may be a little dramatic, the focal point is they had chances to address the issue, and ignored them. I am not even talking about JVR for that joke they have on the blueline now. - flyer_nutter
I stand by by assessment of the pick. It was a swing for the fences. With the D already in trouble they should have made sure the got Ristolienin, who was already playing against grown men. Even Pulock or Zadorov were closer to the NHL than Morin.

Not a shot at you by any means, but maybe one day they will be able to have a d-man that can make his partner better instead of always having to be hidden with the "right" guy. - flyer_nutter
I guess what I meant was that the essentially have 4 guys that are the same and 2 old puck movers who just don't have it anymore.
streit signing was disappointing to me because it meant they thought they were better than they are.
I had a feeling we were doomed to be disappointed this year as soon as they signed him. |

Are we all still happy with that 3 years at $4.1 million extension for Mason? - striker777
Here we go.
To answer your question- yes.
Specifically, ecstatic. |

It should have been Hextall's team long ago, if that is even possible with Eddy looming in the shadows.
At the end of the day, whatever they do, so be it. I wont lie though and say that I am not a little worried what may happen if Holmgren is given one last chance to save his ass.
At the very least Hextall needs to be in place by the draft. Change the tone. - flyer_nutter
And hexys first move should be to get voynov out of la |

this team is in some sort of funk right now playing undisciplined hockey and giving up way to many scoring chances.... how they sit Mez over schenn baffles me...and why is it our goalie is playing great...he signs a contract then gets pulled in his next couple of starts.... talk about crapping the bed not showing he deserves that extension in his last couple of games....and not saying it all his fault coverage in front of him has been sub- par.... this team needs a kick in the collective a$$ right now |

What I really need to know about Morin's play won't show up in the boxscore. - 77rams
Overall he's been decent and developing nicely.
Definitely has a temper. |

Thanks. More of what I'd like to hear.
How's his first pass out of the zone? Has he been getting beat wide, or can he keep his man to the outside? Are his feet getting quicker? Does he play much on the PK? |

Usually pretty decent with his first pass.
He can get beat wide if he's slow with his hip rotation but that's becoming less of an issue as his season has gone along.
He's on the PK often, he used to get 1st unit PP time but now he's on the 2nd unit. |

About Luke Schenn: I would just keep playing him. Teach his mistakes. Don't shift him around all over and scratch him and put him in the 3rd pairing forever and so on. He played great last year. He has potential. If you trade him now it will be for peanuts so build something with what you have. Is there a defenceman in the last 20 years who has actually outperformed his potential once coming to Flyers?
About Mason: I blame the 2nd and 4rth goals on him. |

no it means the same with examples as without. it is a concept for fixing a pretty broad problem. with all due respect to the founder of this board, how can i be expected to know who is available and what it would cost to acquire them? how can anyone know what other gm's are willing to give for our assets? i think the list of the guys i wouldn't trade is pretty short right now, provided the return is right. - hogweed
A goal without a plan is a wish.
It's easy to sit here and say "Boy the Flyers could really use some top 4 defenseman." We all know this. The course of action to get there is the difficult part. How many NFL teams could use a top 10 quarterback? How many NBA teams could use an all star player? How many MLB teams could use a middle of the order bat, front of the rotation starter or backend bullpen arm?
All of these positions and types of players are highly coveted. It's easy to say what we need. How to get there is where this board differs. |

I understand the mindset, the weakness on the team at this point cant be overcome by its strength.
If they really do go to that though, I stop watching a lot more games. That poop was horrific, and Im not going to torture myself with boring hockey. - flyer_nutter
true, maybe, bur it works, you can't argue with that, they looked like an expansion team today |

I don't think it's as much schenn and grossman regressing as it is the league getting younger and faster. They can't keep up |

well since i have no control over any plan, i see no point in saying "they should get player x and trade this specific combination of players to do it". i'm expressing an opinion that this team is pretty awful and you don't think they're that bad. obviously those are two different problem levels that would be fixed in different ways. i think if they recognize that they are not a serious contender then they can get maximum value for whoever the decide to move. if they continue to think they have most of the parts they need and are only a couple parts away, they will continue to hang on to players and stay mired in this condition.
as i said i know not who is available and for what price, what our assets would fetch or how to acquire that info. therefore i will continue to express the opinion that major changes are needed and, as someone posted a page or two ago, hope that the people who finally do get to say what happens know what they're doing |
