Martinek = mistake. Carkner is bad, but brings more to the table than Martinek does.

I don't argue that he deservedly should & will get a payday. I just think the agent is pricing him WAY outside the reality of the NY Islanders & honestly that is a good thing for us the fans.

I honestly like Amac.. he had a great first season for us, a better second season & then he has been on the decline for the last 2+ years.

I think its a mixture of thin blueline & this team asking for too much from him, they have tried to turn him into Brian Leetch and he's just not that good offensively , then he is horrendous picking his spots, he gets caught out of position & is terrible under pressure, often passing the puck into the most dangerous areas.
If the team just told him to play D.. not worry about being Mark Streit, I really do think he would be fine... but now they got in his head & his agent's head that he is a premiere offensive defensman. For that reason... package him for whatever we can get back for him.

god no. He's Brian Rolston when we had him. Slow, eroded skills, no heart. He would have been bought out in the summer if he wasn't injured

I honestly think Martinek should never have been signed, he's out of position constantly and does not seem to be able to see the ice well anymore. He pinches when he shouldn't and he hangs back when he should pinch, and he can't figure out which guy is his in the defensive zone.

Why? They've had preliminary discussions and Vanek has indicated he wants time for his family to decide. If the offer is substantial enough, it won't matter when it's offered. Ultimately this will be all about whether Vanek's family wants to live on Long Island. The money won't be the top factor
