You're allowed to redirect it on purpose though, so that part's a moot point.

49.2 Goals - Kicking the puck shall be permitted in all zones. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who uses a distinct kicking motion to propel the puck into the net. A goal cannot be scored by an attacking player who kicks a puck that deflects into the net off any player, goalkeeper or official.
A puck that deflects into the net off an attacking player’s skate who does not use a distinct kicking motion is a legitimate goal. A puck that is directed into the net by an attacking player’s skate shall be a legitimate goal as long as no distinct kicking motion is evident.

- UIF

....and that's the point- even redirecting the puck on purpose would have been a superhuman feat, never mind kicking it into the net.

I'm sure Wang will really give the NHL hell over this call.

Cpt...you were at the game but right before the opening faceoff the had the cold hard facts:

St. Louis was + 57 in goal difference and the Islanders are -24...that tells it all..a good GM would have gotten a few defensemen who can play defense and a goaltender....this all on the GM...

- kear20

95% of all playoff teams have a positive goal differential. Tampa is usually the lone exception/on the bubble. (They lose by large margins & win lean)

This team has no playoff hope. Not even if everyone ahead of them tanks.
Here's to Year 6 of a rebuild that will never yield the dividends it should have by now.

Pens were awful for 2 years with Crosby. Won a cup in his 4th/5th year?
We haven't made it past 1st playoff round. We have a player of nearly Sid's caliber and Garth cant build the team around him. Granted 1st line is one of best in league currently but defense is horrible(mediocre with Vis & TH) and halfway through the season he hasn't been able to do ANYTHING to improve this team. He'll hold onto AMAC & Vanek b/c he'll BS us at trade deadline saying, "We're still a playoff contender" and then risk losing assets to free agency AGAIN! Which will make the Moulson trade a complete loss - even if Vanek scores 90pts & MM has 55pts. Bailey will continue to hold a roster spot, tho he NEEDS a change. He has value, if you know how to sell it. There's always someone out there who has a crush on a player. What would Tampa give to get Josh? He scored like 110 pts playing with Stamkos their last season at Sarnia. Tell me Stevie Y wouldn't give that consideration if he got Stamkos' blessing? Can we build a 2nd line around Strome for next year? (Imagine Bobby Ryan & Matt Martin flanking Strome?) Frans as a 3rd center should be a reality soon and not a bad thing, if Brock doesn't develop quickly-tho this kid has the most upside on the current roster of ANYONE.

OH, and imagine a real coach....

Someone kick Charles & wake him up. Snow's plan has failed. I don't know what word to describe it other than sad. It's sad that our team isn't leaps & bounds better.

I'm gonna go to the bar and have a few cold ones and watch hockey in LA. Will KISS be playing at either of the Yankee Stadium games? Aren't they all from Brooklyn?
Shouldn't the Isles tried to have gotten them? Or do they not make thermal spandex?
End rant.

If we had a goalie that could stop the puck & a D that could prevent odd man rushes and clear the zone, that blown call by Toronto wouldn't matter because we would have won the game without any need for review... pure and simple.

This is what I imagine every time I see:

-players failing to clear the puck because they are looking for someone to pass to.

- players trying to block shots by going down on one knee and kicking a leg out, like they're doing some sort of groin stretching exercise.

- players passing the puck across the ice to each other in their own zone, and especially at their own blue line.

- goaltenders who cannot seem to corral a rebound and stop the play when the five guys on the ice are ready to collapse.

- the assistant coach have to call a time out with three minutes left when a power play occurs, because the resident genius is about to trot out the second unit, because the first line is tired.

- defensemen "activating", which apparently means "getting caught up ice".

Sorry, but I like the Devils. The Devils win. They've won Cups. They make Finals. They make Conference Finals. They make the playoffs most of the time, instead of once in a while. I know- they're boring. I like boring. I like winning, and if that's boring, that's fine, as long as it's winning. I want to see a team that plays defense- especially this team, who, if it had a solid goalie, and played defense properly, would score twice as many goals as the actual Devils, because it has far more offensive talent than that team does. Dump the puck, forecheck, clog up the neutral zone and wait for your breaks, otherwise make sure your own end is taken care of. You know, hockey, as it is played in the modern era....by everyone but us.

That's what I said to my girlfriend when we were leaving- we should have won that game 3-1 in regulation- if eagle eye didn't give up one on a slap shot from Roosevelt Field, that would have been a start.

Even if the call went our way, which it should...it doesn't change the fact that the coach has no idea how to strategize. I thought that he should of changed the goalies after the second period against the Penguins.

With the Blues, Steen outmuscled every Islanders D... there was no matchup against him...lucking he missed the goal too many times.

I dont even want to talk about the last goal as those players should of never been on the ice. Losing three FOs in the 30 seconds prior to the goal is just horrible and poor line matchup management.

Another observation .... against Pitt: Hickey +4, AMAC -4.... so against blues AMAC gets 28 mins, and Hickey 17. Hickey is +2 and AMAC -1.

Cizikas, grabner,Neilsen, clutterbuck should be out there late. All good defensively.

Edit: also. The islanders problems would be masked a lot if they had good goaltending. Currently 29th in the NHL with a .893 save pct. Poulin is better than only one other goalie, Dubnyk. He's 2nd worst in the NHL out of guys who have played more than 10 games. Nabby is 54th.

There are teams with defenses just as bad, Tampa,Toronto but they get good goaltending and are very much alive in the playoff race .

Edit number 2: the isles have scored 154 goals. That's 8th in entire NHL. The team that has scored 155 goals and is 7th in NHL in that category is 12th overall in the league. Teams 1-6 in goals scored are 1-6 in NHL standings. The isles are 26th. That is how horrendously bad the goaltending is and defense is. The bright side, the isles are still going to have a bright future if they get someone who can stop the puck

I doubt if many Isles fans will be upset if a better goalie was brought in. Goalie is just one issue with coaching and D the bigger issues.

Why? Is there a hole in our roster at the "alcoholic, below-average defenseman" position?

I think a trade for McQuaid or for Bartowski from Boston for AMAC would be the better deal...

This could be interesting:

The relationship between Michel Therrien and P.K. Subban eroded just a little bit more last night when the Canadiens’ coach benched his star defenseman for more than 10 minutes with the game on the line. Mike Boone argues that it’s fine to hold Subban accountable for his mistakes, but Therrien seems to delight in picking on him while letting other culpable players off the hook. With Subban’s contract coming up this summer, there’s reason to think he might be looking for a way out rather than a home run.

I think goaltending is by far the biggest issue. Poulin as I said is only better than Dubnyk. Average goaltending and this team has 10 more wins. Not an exaggeration

It would take a real good goalie to play behind this lousy D. I see Ek has the Isles tied with the Blues on Miller. No way the Isles get Miler. I can see the Isles getting Halak. I just hope they do not give up a lot since Halak can walk as well. This idea of Miller is just crazy. I doubt he wants to go to the Isles and why would the Isles give up a lot for Miller?

If you inversed the Islanders record to date from 21-25-8= 50 pts. to 25-21-8=58 points the Islanders would be in 2nd place in the Metropolitan Division.
