I think if Vanek is offered the 8 year deal for 7 million a season... he takes it.

He now know what kinda team he is on... how can you walk away from JT?

He sees to like Long Island.

Not sure there will be too many teams that can offer him 7 million a year.

Is he worth it... probably not.

But if you trade what Garth did to get him... he must have been willing and have Wang's permission to throw the money at him.

Let's hope for the best.

We all hope he stays, but it seems like he will test the FA market. Almost every team is gonna have the chance in the off-season bc teams will be able to decide how/who they want.
One day I was chatting w/the Minn board, and a few people were saying that there's a lot of pressure for them to sign Vanek. Now the cap will go up & he will replace Heatley's contract and still have cap space. So there are teams, just depends on who will offer the most. Hey all we know, Vanek could give Minn a discount only bc that's where he and his family are from.
But if Snow cant sign him, he has to at least maximize the best trade offer for him regardless of where the isles are in the standings.

Crappy time to have to respond on my cell
Garth's first full draft was 2008, in which he like Smith had 13 picks. In that draft, 9 of his 13 picks saw NHL time, six had full time gigs. So no, it's not comparable. Not close. His next draft saw, all seven picks see NHL time, which is practically unheard of.
It

As for Potii, he was coming off his worst statistical season as a pro and was pretty much run out of town by Ranger fans who held him responsible for constant breakdowns. So he wasn't exactly heavily courted. It was a buy low moment.

Ranger fans booing one of their own for bs? Who would've thought such a thing could happen? . Yeah it was a buy low moment for a talented player. It was a good move. Better than buying low on PMB. 2006 wasn't the strongest draft in the later rounds. Listen I'm not saying Smith would have been the greatest GM in isles history but he was a guy I'd take over Snow. I get it you like Snow, I think he's a complete jackass. That's not going to change. I get what Snow is doing. I just don't like the half ass way he's doing it and for how much you think it's going to work I'm not completely sold for many reasons. From our development to our coach and countless other reasons which we've all beat to death.
I can't say every year I'll give Snow this offseason to make everything better and when he doesn't do it again say the same thing the following. It's gotten old for me. I don't believe Snow has done a good job for the most part. Yes there are some positives and there is some hope for the future but the continued inaction and head shaking shat that's gone I can't stomach any longer. Continually hoping for him to do the right thing and having him do the opposite or nothing at all is something I'm done with. It's gotten to the point where I find it funny.

I like Snow? No. I've said all along that I score him a C- overall. I think he's made numerous mistakes as all GM's do. I think he tends to be looked upon with a more critical eye because of his immediate transition to front office, loon owner, and team follies that preceded his own tenure but much of his criticism is also deserved. What I don't do, and is a favorite past time for many here, is assume the worst in fragmented situations. I don't agree that Smith would have been any better because of the eventual tightning of the teams purse strings. My point about Smith is that his draft was unimpressive and despite bringing in Ted Nolan, UFA acquisitions weren't profound either.
I've said all along that Snow needs to be held accountable for this years results, fair or not. That said, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Just wait till the offseason.... The cap is going up so he has to spend money on quality free agents.
Even if we give buffalo this years first round pick,Snow will draft the better later round guys then most teams first round pick.
We are moving to Brooklyn where he will have an endless stream of money to work with, just you wait.
If Vanek walks we can get someone else to play on JTs wing, they are only good because of JT any way!!

I think you are right. Going to the game today, hopefully they can break through the Blues D beat Boston and make this game interesting on Wed(which i'm going too). Hopefully Vukota isn't going today?

Big one today. Isles need to come out flying. Blues haven't been as good lately, day game for a team on the road can be tough. Hopefully the isles come out ready

There's a couple guys on the lightning blog discussing Hedman. Maybe you should join in the discussion?

From a Blues blog that popped up in my Google News feed:

The Islanders are a curious team. For many years, they were the butt of many a joke: An owner named Wang, and a GM named Garth.... said GM having been promoted to that position directly from his previous job as backup goaltender in 2006... the 15-year contract they agreed to for Rick DiPietro .... DiPietro's career full of injuries and comebacks and more injuries since then... Watching Wang's kid grow up at each year's draft

Sad thing is, until the Isles bring in respectable people into organization, we will continue being the laughing stock and get no respect....

Interesting tidbit on TSN;

Bruins Insider Joe Haggerty believes that the B's could be dangling 25-year-old blueliner Matt Bartkowski in efforts to bring in a veteran D-man, such as the Ottawa Senators' Chris Phillips or the New York Islanders' Andrew MacDonald.

Make it so, Mr. Snow.

The Grabs, Clutterbuck and Nelson line is quickly becoming our second scoring line.

Real shame if we do not keep Vanek. The Grabs, Clutterbuck and Nelson line does look good.

If he doesn't sign at least his trade value goes up if he keeps scoring...I wouldn't be suprised if St. Louis looks to make a trade for Vanek...especially if they get Miller from Buffalo...

To be honest with you, Vanek would be stupid not to take the Islanders offer...he has already said no to Buffalo and then if he says no to the Islanders he better hope he gets a deal from Minny...What happens if Minnesota says they don't want another big contract?

I took a quick look...he's a +10 and he's cheap...and only makes $650,000...perfect player for Wang...I'm sure Garth is either waiting for Visnovsky to come back or he's looking for a pick too...
