They could have been off the board instantly and in our pocket. That's what GM's get paid to do remember? As far as Ferrence goes yeah he's playing shatty up there like everyone else on that team but that doesn't mean he wouldn't have worked for us. Who knows? the point is you don't know unless you try. Atleast TRY to make the team competitive. I have not seen that from our GM during the offseason, not once.

Based on what? One was set in stone for going to Pittsburgh before UFA even opened up. The other signed on day 1. Take a look at the listed top available dmen in last seasons UFA list. Guess who's at the top of that list..STREIT. That's how good the field was.
Meanwhile, I have my doubts that Ferance would have faired better while paired with Amac
As for what Garth did and didn't try, I have no idea. They don't hold pressers where the GM says, "Well, I got turned down by Scuderi, Reghr and Jones today"

I know the result wasn't good enough, and I agree with that asertion. what I don't agree with is that losing Visnovsky and Hamonic/Strait isn't a key component to why this team has failed.

What's wrong with Clutterbuck? Very good penalty killer I think he leads the league in SHG with limited time on the PK. He hits everything in sight and at the end of the year he will have double digit goals. To me he is a perfect example of what a 3rd line winger should be. Why the hate?
- Vukota

My point was we needed defense. Its astounding that capuano has finally put him on the pk recently when he was one of Minnesota's most effective penalty killers. 30th ranked penalty kill

Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau re-signed by the Sharks. More FA's off the board. Ek has the Isles stepping up their efforts to get Miller. Not this again.
- ses111

Only way the isles get miller is if they sign him in July. They won't give up their top prospects for him now. Plus he will be going to a better team in July. Only way I see the Isles signing him is if they sign Vanek and Vanek gets in Millers ear about coming here

These injuries hurt in more ways than one. They may be used as an excuse to bring back the GM and coach.

This is EXACTLY why we NEEDED two top fours or a top pairing in the offseason. This is why signing PMB, Regin, and Clutterbuck proves that Snow is incompetent.
- Cptmjl

Well, they were definitely big misses. I don't know if it proves he's incompetent as much as it proves this team has a huge hill to climb when it comes to getting UFA's to come here. Perpahs some of that is due to the perception that he's incompetent, I don't know but while he missed there, I'd say de Haan and Vanek were huge hits for him this year.
Snow's biggest fail (IMO) this season is the one thing that is unqesitonably 100% in his control and that's behind the bench.

I agree with the D part but I like clutterbuck I wish more of their forwards played the body the way he does. They need two D-men in the offseason a goalie and maybe a top 6 forward. Dehaan has been a godsend. It was like having a top 4 d-man falling in their lap. Its frustrating for sure right now but they are only a couple of pieces away from being legit. The question is can our minor league GM improve the team?

OH i saw AMAC. aweful. Especially his nice pass to sutter at end of game to put nail in the coffin.

That said, the minute given to Amac and the Game Starts given to Poulin is all on Cappy. Same way he puts this bum Regin in line up and puts on him on 2nd line.

Poulin cant shine again another backup goalie. He only won the game vs Rags b/c offense bailed him out. He blew easy wins for isles agains Philly and Pens.

I think the who story of people around the league thing Amac is a stud is BS.

As for Vanek, that last article when he stated he would not be insulted if Snow traded him before deadline and that he would still possibly resign with isles is tell that he probably wont.

I think if Minn wants him, he is gone. You'll also have some teams with Big wallets offering him up some big bucks.

I think if they miss, Jack's gone. If he's not, I'll step all the further towards the 'bye bye Garth' group. For the moment, I'll give Garth ONE more season to show this team has arrived. Last year he won accolades for what the team did, but this is unquestionably a step backwards and no matter what the reasons, he has to be where the buck stops.

I love clutterbuck. i think Cappy is not using him correctly.

it took him 3 months to realize this guy is one hell of a PK player. He leads the NHL in shorties.

He'll get a lot of teams interested in him in July...I think it might be hard to trade him at the deadline because the teams with the big wallets don't have cap space...

Looks to me like Doug Weight is coaching this team NOW..

He and Recchi look so much alike.

Can't say I agree with the Poulin/Rangers comment. That said, I don't think he's been all that good lately, but we haven't had much choice but to play him.

As for Vanek, I think if Minnesota doesn't sign him, he considers coming back. I have a feeling he's very close to considering Long Island his future home, but wants to see if Minnesota can become a reality. If it doesn't, he may very well consider coming here. Money will NOT be the issue.

I agree Cappy is gone if they miss the playoffs. Someone will need to be thrown overboard and it's not Garth. It makes it easier since Weight can take over for Cappy. I think Garth gets one year in Brooklyn and if the teams stubbles he is gone.

Great crowd last night. The place was rocking after Nelson's goal and then when Bailey cut it to 5-4. Reminded me of the playoff series last year. It's a shame snow couldn't build off last years momentum.

Real shame Vukota. He had to find a way to do better than Nabby, Regin, and PMB.

No way cappy is gone. They will use the injuries as an excuse and he will at least start next season as the coach. If they start off slow or go into their usual november nose dive then he will be gone. Just listen to him in the postgame. He doesn't sound like a guy who is in danger of losing his job.

Honestly though what is really the difference between Weight & Cappy? This team doesn't need another inexperienced cheap coach. The excitement of Weight will be gone within two months of his hire. Book it

What's up with the Hickey killers, the guy hustles all the time and even though he's not the biggest he's not afraid to throw his body around. Btw, he's not much smaller than Viz, as far as Vanek, I was all for resigning him at 7-8 million a year but watching last night I'm not so sure. He seems to glide a lot, sure he scores but so did Moulson, Nelson and whoever else they put with JT. And imagine if he's gliding now in a contract year, what's going to happen after a 6year 48 million contract?

Weight is not my first choice but he seems to be next in line like it or not. I rather have Weight than Cappy and I do think Weight has a chance to be a good coach.

I'm ok with Hickey as a 6th dman. He lack of size is a concern. I'm not sure about Vanek and him gliding. None of these players are perfect and all have faults. I think signing Vanek is a must. He has really helped JT and KO.

He was. Might as well make it offical.
