I think it is pretty simple actually. Like anything in life, if a place is providing a negative experience, and you don't enjoy being there, you are going to avoid the place. And vice versa. - Pete V
Exactly. Especially a place (so addictive) you frequent almost every day. |

Why? That post wasn't directed at you. I was just saying in general there are a lot of idiots on this site that take away from the good hockey discussions & Debates that we have. You don't agree? We've been on these boards a couple of years now and I think its gotten worse just my opinion. Not sure why you thought it was hilarious. I thought it was pretty accurate - Vukota

Klein is a character player, and more importantly, a fairly physical defenseman.
He is not without some offensive ability either. I am all for this trade. The Rangers weren't getting more, for Del Zotto's services, than what they wound up with.
Franson or Gardiner aren't upgrades and are weak defensively. There were no other moves out there to make in trying to move Del Zotto out of town.
He may wind up going to Nashville and play some good hockey there but he also might stay exactly the same way he did in NY, over the last year plus.
I like this move. - MidnightMarauder
Like I was saying I view it as trading for a Prust that plays D. If we are ok with that return for a 23 year old Dman than ok. But I just feel like it wasn't worth it. And I actually don't like the contract either. $2.9M is too much for a 3rd pair Dman.
This article isn't exactly glowing.

Neither was Del Zotto's play for a better part of 15 months. |

What I want to know, is this the start or are we not going to see anymore moves from the Rangers? We still need more scoring, right? |

Never say never, the looming Callahan and Girardi UFA status issue is still unresolved.
I fully endorse this move. Was tired of seeing Del Zotto out there looking so insecure with the puck. |

As I said, I think this makes the 2014 Rangers a better team. Just not sure if it is good asset management. |

Yeah, I like the trade for both teams... until Klein f's up
I'm more than ok with moving Cally, as long as we get more in return than the Klein/MDZ trade. Same with Girardi. |

Del Zotto's value was in the toilet and Callahan's, even with his up and down season thus far, has a much better reputation around the league.
If the Rangers do move Callahan they will get a pretty decent return. To expect Del Zotto to get something big time is nonsensical. He has sucked more than he has been good in his NHL career.
I get that he is only 23 years old but his play has not improved over time, it has gotten substantially worse.

In all honesty, what do you think the Rangers could have acquired for Del Zotto's services? |

Klein will replace stralman on the second pair come seasons end. He is more a two way defenseman with a physical side. Makes stralman expendable next and mcilrath slides onto 3rd pair next season. |

Value wise? Maybe slightly more, not much. But I would have expected a different return. I'd rather something along the lines of a prospect/pick/project young player that may have fallen out of favor with his team that COULD turn it around with a change of scenery.
Think how Blake Wheeler was viewed in Boston, WPG/ATL trades for him and BAM! I'd rather take a chance on a guy that is another teams Del Zotto.
I guess what I am saying is we traded for low risk low reward and I woulda traded for a high risk high reward young asset. |

I think Stralman stays to be honest.
He is a reliable second pairing defender; has been since he signed here two seasons ago. |

Blake Wheeler also got dealt in a package and, in exchange, Peverly was a big help to Boston during his brief stay there.
Del Zotto wasn't going to get a blue chip prospect, in return, nor was Sather going to be able to sell Del Zotto, to another GM, and get something more than what they got today.
I think the Rangers did well here; for however long Klein is a Ranger. |

The Klein for Del Zotto trade only works because
a) Del Zotto (23yrs old) makes 2.55 and as a RFA is gonna want much more. He may want to not stay in Nashville, and might shot the puck mighty well has a lot of trouble with the rest of defensiev side of the game. It is a guy still in on the job training.
Klein is 29 years is signed at 2.7 mil until 2018,(which becomes very reasonable with expanding Cap) and a solid player with some snarl.
Ask Dallas' Antoine Roussel

NO flight risk for Rangers and is locked as top six guy there who maybe can slide to a second pairing with the right partner.
So as i said from the get go....the Rangers wouldn't be able to get a top four guy for DelZotto (who wasn't a top four guy). |

I agree. I wish I had a specific current example for you but I don't. I just know we probably had the option of taking a guy who is under 24 years old and struggling on their current team we could of traded for who may of ended up a healthy scratch in NY or reached their potential and I would of liked that better.
EDIT: I got it. Ryan Ellis. shoots righty and the same (frank)ing team and he's apparently struggling in NSH and is an Offensive Dman like DZ who isn't producing offensively. |
