Just so we can do the math: Average > Crappy.

Now I'll admit $2.9 million for four more years for average is not ideal. But let's see what Klein can do in Manhattan before we can this deal. I mean...he cannot be worse than DelZaster. And I think a stay-at-home veteran is what we need here.

- yzermaneely

2.9 for the next four more years is an incredibly good cap hit for NYR, considering that the cap is going to be sky high soon and the avg player salary is only going to go up. Its very low risk for NYR if you ask me.

I wonder how many people's initial reaction was "who the hell is Kevin Klein? The actor?"

The mohawk was more for playoff hype than anything else. He inspired a lot of the guys to get one as well. (Note Hal Gill with the Klein-hawk sitting next to him) Klein is a really good locker room presence and a solid stay at home defender. He's vastly underrated.

Btw, this was on Monday:

Good luck to Klein. We'll miss that Klein-hawk.

holy crap that was a great fight and against one of the top young fighters in the league.

more risk for sure, but i think MDZ will figure his game out and his potential is obviously higher than klein's. klein is what he is at this point and MDZ could turn into a stud. my gut says MDZ will make the rangers end up regretting this trade in the long run.
- rangerdanger94

Normally, I'd agree with you, as I'm almost always against trading a player that's 25 or under. But in Del Zotto's case, I really don't think he's gonna figure it out anywhere. I think he'll be serviceable at best no matter where he plays. This trade should be good for him though because he really needed a change of scenery.

Now I wish the Avs snagged Klein, we need a defender with some balls. Although losing a Dman for 5 minutes can hurt a bit. Does he fight often?

Honestly I am disgusted with this trade. I mean give me all the rational about cap hit all you want but plain and simple MDZ is going to put up some tremendous #'s in Nashville if you ask me.

Thought DZ has been playing much much better lately and all of a sudden he has poor game against the Islanders and we trade him. Let me ask you guys something, if we win last night does this trade still happen???? Idk just kinda weird how we have been playing so well lately and now we make this deal.

I have a feeling we are going to regret this big time. What was DZ 22 years old??? SMFH

Wow that's it.....Ek had me believing Evander Kane or Dustin Byfuglien would be going the other way.
- Alexzanki

Nashville was the only team Ek didn't have as interested in MDZ

Hell yes. If they won that game last night, it would've been because a forward not named Rick Nash showed up, not because of anything he would've done.

As far back as I can remember, I don't think he dropped the gloves too often. Watching the game the other night I was like "whoa" when I saw it was Klein.

Wish nothing but the best for Klein. Used to be skeptical about him until the last few seasons. Seems like neither fanbase will really know what the other is getting till later down the road.

If that were the reason I'd think McDonagh and Girardi would've gone before him . They had a worse game then MDZ last night.

Seems to me that the Rangers got the solid righthanded defensive, defensemen who can kill penalties, block shots, and gives them some contract cost certainty, and the Preds got the engimatic young defensemen with more upside.

With the above said, I think the Preds have the much greater potential to win the deal, and I hope that the Rangers don't regret this in a few years.

only way the return could have been bigger is if the rangers had packaged mdz with somebody. i guess the rangers get a little tougher with klein, but it's probably a lateral move when all is said and done.

From here it looks like a good trade for you guys. MDZ had some defensive issues and you get from what I'm getting at least a solid stay at home guy. I'd be happy if i were a ranger fan.
