Not gonna happen, it isn't NY, DZ doesn't have the brain or the sense to excel

Bingo -I'd bet with you on this one

kevin klein is a good player. nothing special or flashy, but neither is girardi or staal.
- rangerdanger94

Staal is special. If he can remain injury free for long
Enough to really get his game back he will be awesome.
That is assuming he doesn't have vision problems.

Honestly I am disgusted with this trade. I mean give me all the rational about cap hit all you want but plain and simple MDZ is going to put up some tremendous #'s in Nashville if you ask me.

Thought DZ has been playing much much better lately and all of a sudden he has poor game against the Islanders and we trade him. Let me ask you guys something, if we win last night does this trade still happen???? Idk just kinda weird how we have been playing so well lately and now we make this deal.

I have a feeling we are going to regret this big time. What was DZ 22 years old??? SMFH

- adwolf130

I'd bet theyve been working on this trade for a while and it has
Nothing to do with last night. I am in the camp that thinks DZ
doesn't have the head for taking the next step to becoming
A really good player -I just don't see the hockey sense there.
I'd be curious to hear reports on him as a junior player; I can picture
Him tearing it up on sheer skill but he doesn't have enough of that
To do it in the NHL and doesn't seem to realize that he should
Tighten up other parts of his game. I could be wrong but the trade
Sounds like a good move for the current team from what I am hearing about Klein.
They def need a crease clearer more than they need a stretch
Passer at this point.

Yeah, but we definitely know it will be a D man who ever it is. And I have no problem criticizing a players play, and I never saw anything on these boards about DZ that was so over the top, but a lot of Rangers fans on other sites, or twitter like
B2B pointed out, were just so over the top, bordering on mental illness.

- mdw7413

Because were somewhat educated here.

But as said before, after his first season we put such high expectations on the shoulders of DZ. However most of those were offensive expectations, I think we all were willing to swallow the defensive weakness as long as he produced. He stunk his sophmore year, turned it back up his junior year, then last year and this year hes just been unbelievably bad on both sides of the ice.

It honestly looks like hes regressing and not progressing, which makes no sense because you would think with AV's defensive friendly system he would and should have been able to get that production back up. But the exact opposite has happened.

Asked over in the Nashville board, they said, great shot blocker, really solid PKer, and solid stay at home D man.

Like I was saying I view it as trading for a Prust that plays D. If we are ok with that return for a 23 year old Dman than ok. But I just feel like it wasn't worth it. And I actually don't like the contract either. $2.9M is too much for a 3rd pair Dman.

This article isn't exactly glowing.

Lot of people seem to think losing prust was the undoing of this team
. Getting him back - on D - would appear to be just what the
Dr ordered.

Best Ranger to wear #8, was Steve Vickers, a power forward with great hands and scoring touch, and BTW no one messed with him.
- OLDSCHOOL#6

Didn't Walt Podubney wear #8? Not in Vickers' class but I want to say he wore the number. And I like saying Podubney.

edit. He did wear 8 and had no idea he died. I remember as a pretty good player for the Rangers.

I remember Turcotte as a rookie. Showed promise but then just like that he became nothing.

He actually had a few good years for the Rangers, but his rookie year probably was his best. He could put the puck in the net, but not alot of grit to his game.

it's kinda sad

really thought he would be the next Ron Greschner back then

I understand the trade totally. The "lefty-righty" thing has been as huge an issue as we have been discussing on this blog for a long time, and that's the biggest reason this trade was made.

Kevin Klein is a steady, defense first, very unspectacular player signed long term to a reasonable deal who should be able to play the right side and let John Moore take some more offensive chances.

It definitely is a trade that makes the team a more balanced team now, but you know Del Zotto is gonna blossom in a quiet market like Nashville where they don't scrutinize every little foul up on the blueline.

I think it's the perfect place for MDZ, especially with Weber and Seth Jones there.

Looking back, no doubt it's going to look like we got hosed on this deal 5 years from now.

I'm hoping this stabilizes his game, he could be the next DZ or Dubi 4.0, either way the defense became more whole again, these are the times we miss Sauer, kid was on his way to becoming a force on D

Yes he did wear 8 and he and Sandstrom had that season where they both scored 40, some other less notable 8's were Donato, Flatley and Grosek

There seems to be 2 sides of stupid to this trade, 1 is the Rangers "fans" who act like DZ was Leetch and we're coming off the ECF again, the 2nd are the trolls who now praise DZ and think Nashville stole him for garbage, social media makes my head hurt.

I think the most reasonable way to look at it is that it definitely makes the Rangers blueline more stable and balanced now, there is no disputing that, but that clearly Del Zotto has more upside and there is a chance way down the line that this trade is looked upon as one that on paper clearly looks like the Rangers got harpooned on.

And clearly, the lefty righty thing was as important as we all had been saying all along.

Lefty and having that defenseman comfortable with the right side, never thought it was going to be a big problem, DZ still has upside but that window for improvement isn't wide open, IMO he's peaked but only time will tell, drafting McIlrath of course in hindsight is the newest 1st round disaster

I swear, never in my life do I ever remember being as mad as I was when we didn't draft Cam Fowler, but I was willing to be reasonable and wait for McIlrath to develop.

It's hard not to be pissed right now.
