I dont think the MDZ trade is going to help the Gio. trade.. might be best to hang onto him now
- Dozzer

Would it also not help the Gardiner trade??? Works both ways bro!

Ya, I don't think there was ever any real talk about trading Gio anyway. It was only fans that were discussing trading him, not the flames.

There is no intent to trade him.

I get the idea of keeping veteran for the leadership presence and guidance. I even understand the idea of keeping those that want to be here and be part of this rebuilding team. If that is the case with Cammi, then it seems reassuring that things are on the right track here.

At the same time the ideas of leadership, guidance, and veterans that want to be a part of it have to be weighed against the asset and what they bring back. I like Mike Cammaleri. I always have, in both his runs with the Flames. I never thought that they should have let him go the first time. I do think that he can bring that veteran presence. But right now, in what the goals of this team need to be going forward, Cammalleri is of best use in what he can potentially bring in via trade. Of those that, in my opinion, should be options to trade he will bring back the most in return. If I am overvaluing him then maybe. But for the right team, and in the right tweaking (retain half his salary) I believe he brings back a 1st rounder.

The leadership and guidance will be provided by Giordano, Stajan, and Glencross. Cammi needs to be used to facilitate the rebuild, not to be a part of it.

The only way this makes sense to me, is if Burke has a significant offer for Hudler (that is better then he thinks he will get for Cammi) and wants to see if he can keep Cammi before signing off on the deal. I can't see a need for both of them.

My opinion, trade Cammi to Detroit. Sweeten the deal to get a first. Retain Salary. Take back a poor contract. Detriot's history and streak of being a playoff team will be too hard for them to pass up. Right now they are just outside it and will be willing to make the move to get into it. Plus for all their battles to get into the east it would be a blow to finally get there and fail to make the playoffs.

Millions also mentioned that some people believe Phoenix could be a landing spot for Cammy. Said they are looking for a scoring winger, and that Cammy fits the bill. My question would be who do the Flames hypothetically target? Maybe a d-man like Gormley (who we could have picked had it not been for the Jokinen trade)? I doubt Runblad would be a guy Burke would be interested because of his size and style of play.

Gormley would be awesome but I would think it would have to be Cammy + to get him.

Howabout Richard Sherman citing the Flames game on a national stage? I kind of agree with him....why do most fighters get called goon and not thug? He may be onto something with the thesis that thug is a closet racial epitaph.

Somewhat topical I think...thoughts?

Giroux is probably biting it.

Also, if it means getting rid of Hudler to keep Cammy this makes no sense. I agree with Colin, this has to be smoke and mirrors to try and improve his price. You don't fire Feaster to retain the status quo. I am still shocked he re-signed Stajan if no other reason than he was traded by Burke once. Hope Cammy gets a shot at a cup this yr....he is dynamite in the playoffs. Maybe Burke should send out the '10 MTL playoff highlight reel to Detroit/Phoenix ey all to boost the price

Goon is very much a hockey term. I'm not sure it has as much to do with race as it does with the fact that hockey has it's own distinct terminology.

While I agree, the definition for thug is not necessitated by race. I think 'thug life' gives media an unearned free card to correlate two separate meanings into one tidy argument. One that is largely unfair. And I agree with him...and also that goon would not fit in the context they were trying to put it on him. Just found his comments interesting.

I mostly agree that he shouldn't be called goon...in the context maybe heel ala WWF would have been wiser.

Interesting, I have never thought of it before but now that someone has said it; makes sense. Calling someone a thug denotes gangster, lowlife; a goon is someone who isn't a gangster or lowlife; it is someone who likes to goon people.
