Insurance also implies we get something in return. When was the last time a cheap shot artist actually got theirs? I mean, Cooke turtle fought Thornton...the next game. Kaleta's only comeupence is being too poop at playing that he's in the minors. M. Richards didn't answer the bell for killing Booth because why would he have to? Just walk away. Dustin Brown takes people out all the time, only guy he's ever fought was Doan and he got his face smashed in. Players don't fight pure goons/fighters, goons fight goons, and in general goons aren't dirty because if they are they don't last 3 minutes in the NHL due to having a guy who will put you down a man who only plays 3 minutes of brutal inefficient hockey. - AdamFrench
remember what it was like under wilson when they didnt ice one?
sorry french.. you're blowing hot air on this one. the proof is in the pudding. |

Oh good. They're 5th in the East in points. - Feeling Glucky?
tied for fourth actually
but lets see if they are still there once the other teams have played the same number of games.. both philly and columbus could jump them by winning all their games in hand |

That's why you use points percentage!
It takes into account games played for an accurate standing.
edit: team +/- always seems to be a good predictor of final standings... so I wouldn't be surprised to see the Blue Jackets jump up a few spots soon. |

Luckily most of the teams sitting there have some tough games (except CBJ) and play each other.

The Leafs were so easy to play against because they sucked Richard from Matt Stajan the number one centre through to the red goal light district known as fail alley in the crease... - AdamFrench
Pretty much. Lol, Goons make the Leafs hard to play against? lololol riiiight.
I guess certain people fail to realize that there are fewer goons and enforcers in the NHL these days, and that they're a dying breed. |

Ya...your selective mammaries are intriguing, those 2005-2008 teams with Wade Belak sure were (frank)ing HARD to play against...what with the ultra toughness fighting dude out there for 3 minutes!!
Or hey! Wilson employed the fighter Jamal Mayers, tough veteran presence, TOUGH GUY! Oh right. Fighting doesn't do poop (frank) all when your team is garbage incarnate that can't stop a beach-ball from centre ice. BUT HEY WE HAD HOLLWEG! You know, that other fighting cheap shot goon! He was soooo tough to play against. No wait, there was Rosehill, the guy many wanted over Orr because Orr sucked, no wait! He was soooo tough to play against that he changed the whole spectrum of the team in 3 minutes flat.
WAIT HOLY (frank)! This team had BRAD MAY, the original goon that plays, wait, wait what? Not hard to play against because they don't do anything but stand around for 3 minutes and get beat to the puck continually? No?
Or hey, what about that year Orr was punching and toughing it up like the big tough guy he was...all the way to an easy to play against 29 PLACE FINISH! TOOOOOUGHGHHGH
What about TOUGH GUY Garnet Exelby? Ya he was a BEAST! Tough guy tough guy. Couldn't play hockey but (frank) did anybody mess with the Leafs then? Yes...but Orr was there too! Oh poop...they still (frank)ing blew...weird, they were so tough.

i think the leafs winning their last 6 is evidence enough that point percentage doesnt mean much
a mere 6 games ago toronto was on pace for 83-84 points
now they are on pace for 93 points
thats why point percentage doesnt do much for me.. one lil hot or cold streak throws it out the window |

things to note from last nights games:
Rick Nash is heating up... Dozzer will like this. i'm still not a fan of him being selected for the olympics, but if he's hot he might be of some use before he disappears.
did you catch the Andrew Ference post game interview? it was good, reporters asked him why no one dummied kassian for his high stick on gagner in pre-season. he turned on them, basically said you are the same guys that will jump all over it if we did, so why are you suggesting we do it.

How many times has he fought? What about McLaren?
Yeah. They dont contribute anything, and theyre not needed. Considering teams aren't icing their tough guys anymore.
Rather have a Ashton-McClement-D'Amigo 4th line.

You're ignoring that the Leafs went on a 4 game slide just before that. Their point pace before these last 10 games probably wasn't too different than it is today.
Over the half way point of the season, it's a pretty good indicator of where things are going. A cold streak here will be neutralized by a hot streak there.
Obviously, nothing's certain. The Leafs could stop playing hard, and drop again, or keep this winning streak going and win the President's trophy.... but what's most likely is that they stick to their current pace.
I bet you, if you used point% today to predict the 16 teams in the playoffs, you probably wouldn't get more than 4 wrong. |

Statistically, I'd say a 25% error margin is... well, bad.

you russian pansy
first off.. mayers and hollweg? those guys arent true tough guys
secondly .. belak, rosehill, and may? not one played more than half a season.. consistency means something.. plunking one in every 3 games isnt going to do poop.
exelby was a d-man.. no use having him do that job.. it only puts the team at a disadvantage.
wilson misused the toughness at his disposal. thats why it didnt work |
