I never said he could take over for Phaneuf as overrated as I believe Phaneuf is.

You guys underestimate how good Franson is I believe.

Sure he's had a rougher year than expected, but the whole team slumped making all our D look worse than they are...

- Garnie

slower players like franson should pinch back at times to get ahead start

me too......... couldn't understand the love affair for this guy. What was really hilarious were the people saying we should trade Phaneuf and let Franson be the top pairing defensman.

Ya....... that would have gone over really well

- faceto27

i said that.. and i know it would of sucked.. but i really didnt want to resign DP lol

in fairness tho.. i havent noticed the caveman as much during this win streak.. which means to me.. he's actually doing his job well.

i'll give credit to phanucklehead where its due

He hasn't slumped. This is how he played last year too.

Difference is, he only had to worry about 3rd pairing forwards last year.

That is the big difference

David Clarkson and Frazer McLaren are both eligible to come off IR tomorrow, should both be healthy enough to return from their injuries.

...ya, they were sorely missed.

shoot it in his own net? so you are anti phaneuf are ya?

franson has a good shot.. and its accurate.. and he's right handed.. and he's got a big tongue which i am sure is making some lady happy somewhere... but he's a bad decision maker.. not all that good in his own end... cant match him against scoring lines.. is slowly being overtaken on the top PP by gardiner.. and, judging by the way his contract negotiations go, has a high opinion of himself.

if you could sign him for 2 million per year to play bottom pairing minutes with a bit of PP time go for it. however.. he will be looking for around 4.. and based on his point production an arbitrator would give it to him.

ALSO... if he goes to arbitration this summer and signs for 1 year the leafs cannot trade him over the course of the season. that means he can walk at the end of next year as a UFA and the leafs wouldnt be able to stop him.

there is some good kids in the system.. cut ties with the 26 year old franson and just move on. trade him and get something for him at the deadline imo.

- Dozzer

has made some bad passes - not a bad decision maker - hasn't had a lot of help on the side boards for big parts of the year. Anyways..I know your take on Franson...I like him - he can play 2nd pairing I believe..sure some teams might give him fits...but those same teams give every team fits.

sure he has slumped had some bad bounces...team has sucked in our end...this doesn't help the D and this year he's playing against 2nd lines...we are in 6th...where do you think the Leafs should be...you think they get rid of Franson and they are now Cup Contenders?

I believe we have a good group going...maybe a tweak or 2...but man this guy has tons of potential...I know he's 26...but it's not like he came into the league playing top mins until last year.

Regardless..I think he's competent and would rather him than Gards...right now I wouldn't trade either unless is was something BIG coming back.

too risky.. if the leafs arent ready to give him what he wants it goes to arbitration

which means the leafs cannot trade him all of next year..

which means he walks as a UFA in the summer unless the leafs resign hiim to even more money

its time to move franson

Favouite young D story comes from Ottawa. They had to make a choice between two young players. Redden or Chara.
Anyone want to ask Ottawa how that one worked out?

No way do you compare Franson with Gards.

Gards has brain farts, without a doubt. Skill wise...... Franson can't even hold Gards jock strap for him.

This

Everybody needs to understand this. Some nutty arbitrator who merely looks at pts is going to award this clown over 4 million a year, maybe 5 million. And like the BullDozzer said, then we are STUCK with him for the entire year.

He needs to be moved NOW.

Shat........ I just agreed with the Dozzer.

Now i'm really confused

Not entirely true. Don't forget. A team always has the right to walk away from the arbitrator's decision. The Thrashers did that to Clarke MacArthur, making him a Free Agent
