Bodie has been solid just about all year..hard on the forecheck, decent at advancing the puck, not afraid to drop the mitts - GardinerExpress
You're playing Boston. You have one spot on your fourth line to fill. You have Orr and Bodie. Who do you put in? |

Fight Chara? Is that a real question? - sanfordnson
Sure it is...I'm curious. Do you think it's a good idea for Chara to fight Scott? I would think Scott would take that fight any day. |

i am no fan of carlyle.. but he's not the only coach who uses fighters.

opposite of advanced is basic.
Or I guess regressed.

Basic stat.... doesnt sound negative enough
regressed stats.. thats better
what about
the "my argument has nothing left to stand on so i will use +/- as my last resort" stat? |

If you were starting a team, which young core would you prefer?
Duchene
2009 #3
McKinnon
2013 #1
Landeskog
2011 #2
O'Reilly
2009 #33
Barrie
2009 #64
OR
Hall
2010 #1
Nugent-Hopkins
2011 #1
Yakupov
2012 #1
Eberle
2008 #22
Nurse
2013 #7 - 1979AD
It is a tough call. I was thinking about this exact same thing earlier.
Hall is the best of the bunch right now. I think pure scoring skill favours the oilers group. The more well-rounded players are in the Avalanche group.
Nurse kind of swings it back to the Oilers for me... but I am not a Yakupov fan at all so they kind of cancel out.
I think you can *start* to build a team with the Colorado group. I think the Edmonton group is more the players you need to out a team over the top.

Pretty hard to find fault in this game...the boys played a back to back after travelling the previous night, and beat the team with the 6th best record in the league, in their own barn. The shots were misleading in this one because the leafs outright dominated a big chunk of this game but slacked in the 3rd - GardinerExpress
I think they ran out of gas, and sat back a bit in the 3rd.

Thing is the col side of it has size. Which in the west seems to be even more important. Even if they are not bigger. They seem to play that way |

I was comparing the team as a whole...so Oilers draft Seguin (Center) over Hall (Winger), Landeskog (winger) over RNH (center), Ryan Murray (D) over Yakupov (winger), Valeri Nichushkin (winger) over Nurse (D).
All good picks, but better options were available. Just my opinion ..... - 13LEAFS01
Hindsight.
At the time, I can't argue with who the Oilers picked.

If Chara decided to oblige him, I think Scott would have a rude awakening in store. There's a reason nobody asks Chara to dance much anymore. Like I said though, it depends whether Chara decides if a plug like Scott is worth the effort. |

yup, more complete 2-way game.
That is why the Leafs paid so much for Clarkson. They desperately needed some jam in the top 6.
Sadly, as with most FA signings, this one is looking bad.

Yeah that is a real "why bother" ... Buffalo would LOVE to trade those two off the ice. Chara, and the Bruins are not that stupid.

and why the Oilers were willing to shell out more.
They dodged a bullet on that one, it seems.
I mean, they got hit by a few hundred... but they dodged that one. |

I feel bad for Edm. If they bomb, and end up drafting second. What do they do if someone drafts Ekblad first?
They will be forced to draft Best Player Avail, so Reinhart, another forward.
Would you trade down to try and get more? |

Possible, but if it's a 4 minutes a game goon I doubt the other team cares a lot. - sanfordnson
true.
In the NFL, a 15 yard penalty can HURT. It can cost a game a the wrong time.
Maybe the League needs to hand out 5 minute majors more often for some crap. Then you can't just keep calling up interchangeable goons who you don't care if they get suspended.

They shoulda done it when they drafted Yakupov. Traded down to the Leafs for a 2nd and a 3rd or the next year's 1st.
We coulda had Galy, and they'd have Rielly. |

Trade up to get Ekblad maybe?
Either Ekblad or Reinhart are good picks though. |

Absolutely. The only saving grace is, in the east, if you get passed boston and Pitts. You can get tothe dance. Most of the other teams are fairly evenly matched. I see why nonis did it. If you can take boston out, which obviously Clarkson seems like he would help with the bang and crash of boston, then, unbelievably you have a shot. Right or wrong I see the thinking. Plus, if the leafs get to the 2nd or 3rd round of the playoffs a few years in a row and Ontario born players actually want to come home. Look out |

I just can't believe George Parros is playing in this league. Same for John Scott. |

I think the risk is too great for Chara. Arguably one of the best defenders in the league who could get tagged by a guy who made very short work of Thornton the last time they fought, and by someone who is completely expendable and has little to lose. I doubt Chara takes that risk. But I'd like to see it if it happened. |
