Hagg = Dmitri Yuskevich
Ghost = Francis Bouillion

There... you happy?

- PLindbergh31

Lol, think it's gonna fall somewhere in between your two posts

Morin = Bryan Allen
Hagg = Kim Johnsson
Ghost = Jared Spurgeon

Although I secretly think Ghost will be the best out of the bunch... maybe Dan Boyle good.

LOL. I was impressed what I saw of Hagg in the Junior tourney. He's got a little bit of snarl to his game.

Does Gost have a similar skill set to Torey Krug? The only reason I made the comparison is because they are both small in stature, college dmen. Is that where the comparison ends?

Pretty similar... think Ghost is a better skater, Krug has a better shot.

Just based on comparables, his cap hit is right on target... maybe even a little low considering he signed in an environment of an increasing cap.

I've given Homer a lot of poop about his contract negotiating skills, but this one is right up there with Giroux's 2nd-contract in how smart it was.

- Tomahawk

Or Couts' bridge deal, or Mason's one-year deal at less than the qualifying offer for this season...Paul Holmgren takes too much crap for contracts.

David Clarkson got 7 years, $42 million. Jakub Voracek and Wayne Simmonds' deals are like pennies on the dollar, compared to some of the other contracts out there -- hell, even Scott Hartnell's deal isn't horrific, based on where contracts are now and, most importantly, where they're going.

Coots and Mason had very little leverage, though, so I hesitate to give too much credit to Homer there.

And Clarkson was UFA... Jake and Simmer were restricted, and Jake was signed just prior to his big breakout.... hard to compare those deals.

Hartnell's is passable today... but by 2019?

The best thing about Mason's deal is that he earned the contract through his play -- he took the reduced salary on the one-year deal. He has played well. It was unrealistic to think he was going to take another one-year deal at a reduced salary.

This deal is about as good as it gets -- I honestly though it'd be $4.5/$4.75.

Flyers 2nd round pick Anthony Stolarz stretchered off the ice after being cut by a skate in the 1st period of yesterday's London-Saginaw game.

FWIW
Morin
Best case: A less offensively gifted version of Pronger
Worst Case: A slower version of Coburn
Probable: big mean shutdown guy with some skill. a bigger, faster, meaner Chris Therien

Hagg:
Best: a faster version of Desjardins
Worst: Karl Dykhuis lite
Probable: a bigger, more offensively gifted Petr Svoboda

Ghost:
Best Case: puts on some muscle and becomes the next Dan Boyle
Worst Case: has a nice career in the AHL
Probable: a slightly smaller, but faster, Mark Streit

Hartnell at 2019 isn't pleasant to think about, and I freely admit Hartnell can't keep up the pace of a Line 1 player anymore.

But from what I see, he should -- repeat, should -- be able to play on the second line, or a third-line that can score some, for another few years.

If he is able to do that at a 20-goal/45-50 point pace, then the Flyers win the deal, if he can do it for another three years.

I'd be fine with the "probables" of all of those -- 500-game defensemen don't grow on trees, especially with this organization.

Don't forget, by 2019 the cap ceiling will be 85-95 million

at 85 Hartnell's cap hit is comparable to about 3.5 today
at 95 its around 3.2

The deal isn't the disaster that some make it out to be

I think they are comparable. Schneider has never been the # 1 guy in his career yet.

He was the #1 in Vancouver last year, but he lost the job because he couldn't handle it.

That's about how I see it. I honestly think Ghost will be the best of the 3, at least offensively. Hagg will be your solid 3-4 guy who plays 15-18 a night. Morin...who knows?

Agreed -- this stuff is all relative.

The Flyers aren't negotiating in a vacuum, and really aren't as guilty of horrific contracts as they get blamed for giving out.

I didn't love the Grossmann contract because of his lack of speed, because of the term. But they tried to hold the line on Matt Carle; it wasn't their fault that Calgary gave Dennis Wideman a huge extension after acquiring him.

But Coburn's deal, plenty of others...they're within the range of what the NHL has to offer.

The worst contract is, and always will be, Bryzgalov's -- unfortunate on every level, and we're just lucky that one could be wiped off the books.
