That's in an ideal situation, with a team committed to developing patiently.

We know the Flyers need puck-movers now, and don't have a lot of cap-space (or assets they're willing to part with) to bring them in. And we sure as heck know they're not patient... Sbisa was thrown to the wolves as an 18-year-old... they couldn't get Pitkanen over fast enough.

Prudence be damned, I feel pretty confident saying that we'll see at least one of Ghost, Morin or Hagg in the lineup next season to start. That's just how they roll.

- Tomahawk

Does that mean you think they won't resign Gus and will have Ghost leapfrog Alt?

Worst. Pick. Ad Infinitum.

Not the worst pick but some here will never let things like that go.

Are you surprised Drouin didn't stick with the Lightning? He's way too good for juniors. He's averaging over 2 points per game.

No I wasn't, he wasn't physically ready & they wanted him to play more center or maybe it was wing.

Few thoughts.

-I don't think that Morin, Gostisbehere or Hagg make the team next season. I do think Mark Alt has a good shot to make the roster. He's been good for the Phantoms.

-I still think that they trade for a defenseman. They aren't patient, and they probably are like me, and don;t want to water any of Giroux's prime. Say what you want about keeping prospects & growing from within, but they have exactly one Claude Giroux. There's not another player anywhere in the system that can match his skill. In 4 years, he'll be 30.

-I'm OK with the Mason extension. I don't love it(cap hit is a bit too high), I don't hate it(I like the three years), and it's a fair deal. There's a bit of risk for the Flyers, but it's not an albatross.

Mason's play has dipped a bit, but it's more noticeable in a statistical manner than a serious drop in quality. He's still not allowing many weak goals, and he's still making momentum saves, despite seeing his save % drop. But he could stand to pick it up a bit.

Timonen & Meszaros are likely goners. Gill is definitely gone. I think they'll trade one of Coburn, Schenn or Grossmann.

The UFA market is weak. They may add a depth guy from it, but if they want a top pair guy, the only route is traded.

I am surprised at how little Lauridsen's name is mentioned when talking about D prospects.

I mean i know he might not be the "sexy" name as the guy with the most potential, but in his stint with this team last year he was pretty solid and is looking to be having a pretty nice year with the Phantoms this year, leading the team in plus/minus with a +11, nobody's even close to that on the team and definitely not any of the other dmen down there.

I guess it's all predicated on how he improves his skating.

He's more a depth guy. Guys like Morin, Alt, Gostisbehere & Hagg project as top 4 guys, maybe even top pair if everything breaks right. Lauridsen seems to be a 6/7 guy.

Don't think Ghost and Alt are necessarily competing with each other... Ghost and Gus might be mutually exclusive, though.

I think it's because he's redundant. Guys like Schenn and Grossmann do the same things he does. Schenn and Grossmann are more of a proven commodity. If the Flyers deal one of those guys, a spot for Lauridson will open

It's funny that nobody talks about Manning. From what I've been hearing is that he has been the Phantoms best defenseman this year.

Again, he's more a fringe/depth guy, at least according to most prospect guys.
