Honestly I can't blame management for who they drafted with the #1 picks they had. It's not like there was a Doughty type dman to really consider for the #1 pick. Some might say we should have taken Murray over Yakupov but I really don't see Yak as being the wrong choice. He was really rated a lot higher by almost everyone compared to Murray. I really have no problem with us drafting Hall, RNH, Yak with those #1 picks, if need be we can always trade one of those players for something we really need. They are only going to get better overtime. To be honest the only real pick I have an issue with over the last couple of years is in 2010 when we drafted Musil over Gibson. Gibson was highly touted then and I think that is one I would take back for sure.

Hey, busy day. I also don't blame mgmt for the #1's. I DO hold mgmt responsible for not obtaining the sizeable vets to provide leadership & guidance to the kids. The kids were thrown into the fire by mgmt who assumed they could run n' gun and be fine. I've watched the team make-up develop over the past few years and repeatedly expressed concern, as have many others, that the proper support pieces were not there to help.

Yeah, I guess. Hindsight is 20-20 though. People weren't screaming bloody murder when we took Sam Gagner instead of Ryan McDonough, or Alex Plante instead of Max Paccioretti at the time.maybe we should have taken John Carlson instead of Ebs? No doubt our team would be more balanced today, but team needs were different then, and really, who has a Chrystal ball?
- Jeropotato

it's not a matter of hindsight. It's a matter of proper planning for the composition of the Team. Many hockey men have said for years that championship teams are built from the goal & D out. That was the concern many saw when it wasn't happening.
It's no use saying, as Fans, that we should get this or that guy; leave that to mgmt who have scouts and lots of info on players to make those decisions. What we can say and many of us have said is add the players who will complement the style of a fast, talented top 2 or even 3 lines not to mention that we need some veteran shut-down D to anchor the back end. For example, you need not add a Brent Burns when there are many similar types of players who won't cost so much but who can play the same essential role, such as Chimera, Fehr, Clifford, etc.

Oh, I agree, I thought you were suggesting that we should have started the rebuild from the back end out, much like the Hawks did. No doubt we need those types of players, but hasn't Mac T been saying that since he got the gig? Some other players like the ones you mentioned that I like are Downie, Kulemin and Moss, but like you said, there are many.

I think they hoped Horcoff and Smyth were those guys. News flash! They weren't .

Well, I've always thought that you should take the best player available. That is usually a forward in the early first round as D & goalies are bigger gambles and often take longer to develop,so no fault there. But the overall plan needed to ensure a balanced lineup, which didn't happen.

That was certainly part of it. we all just want the Team to progress. Management lead by Lowe has had every opportunity. I just don't see much progress on the horizon with K.L. in charge.

Reminds me of a story once, and this one is 100% true.

I had a friend in my younger years (He is actually a grade A scum bag) who lived off 107th ave in Edmonton. He met some young crack/meth head crying on the street and so he invited her up to his place to warm up or use the phone or some poop. As he's telling me the story I'm wondering about his motives, he is not the kinda guy that does (frank) all out of the goodness of his heart. I'm listening and listening until,as expected, he tells me how cute she would be if she was a little healthier and cleaned up a bit. So there the truth comes out, he's trying to take advantage of a young girl with serious problems to get some ass....what a scum bag.
He then tells me that she stayed at his place for a few days, but when he leaves he locks her in (one of those deadbolts that needs a key from either side-sounds like a fire hazzard but whatever). I asked if he saw anything wrong with confining a 18 year old crack head in his apartment for hours at a time, but he felt he was helping her out most the time anyway, so she shouldn't mind.

Tell me, does this guy lack a few decent qualities?

Why is it, that the story you just told is so, FROGGIN' hilarious, yet so disturbing at the same time ? JEEZ, i thought my friend was a doucher but, your friend from back in the day, takes the cake !

At this rate, their blockbuster is going to be Hemsky for a 3rd and a c-level prospect.

I could see that... Willis was just upset that he was a mid card action star. Especially compared to Van Damme, Segal and Patrick Swayze.

The trouble with the Oilers is that the fans care 100x more about the team than the players and management do.

Would you do one (or any) of these following trades?

RNH for Bieksa and Horvat?

Yakupov and 2nd for Spezza and Cowen?

Eberle for Kadri and Franson?

Yakupov and 1st for Kane and Bygulien (sp?)

rather have a younger centre than spezza. nothing against spezza, but edm is no where near to contend for a cup. if spezza isn't in senators long term plans, i like to see him go to a contender and win.

since you took kane out of the deal, i would say no. kane was the enticing piece to acquire. lots of question marks around buff work ethic, will, and mental strength.
