Brown, Doan, and Crosby are probably the best captains out there. I know, I know, everyone hates Crosby, but man not only is he the best player in the world, he is also probalby the hardest working.

Which one of these players screams leadership?

Hecht? Tallinder? Pominville? Spacek? Rivet? Lydman? Ott?

All captains since 2007.

The fact is that many of these younger kids are given the C purely because they are the best players on their team. Generally the younger you are, the less mature you are and the less you know about leadership. Those are things you learn with time and experience.

Guys like Toews are the exception to the rule because they are young and show leadership beyond their years. But on your list above, half the guys would be the exact same player whether they were captain or not. Certainly an arguement can be made that giving them the C will shape them due to the added responsibility. I don't think there's a right or wrong answer, it depends on the player, the team, and the circumstance.

Oh, I know, just like to relay the bogusness. Anything with Buffalo is interesting to me, even if I know it won't happen.

What does offensive production have anything to do with who is the team captain? Team captain is supposed to be a guy that is a leader for the rest of the players, that stands up for his teammates.

I was thinking the same thing, but at the same time, if some 4th line grinder who scores 5 goals a season became the captain of a team i would think that some of the other players that actually contribute GWG's wouldnt take to it very well. Lead by example and all that mumbo jumbo
