Has to be a compromise. Maybe 1 player per team be granted exceptional status. I don't know but we have a kid that is being screwed by it.

Agree 100%. Have other teams recently run into this snafu?, cuz if there's enough owners and GMs talking about it the NHL might implement an exception rule. I can't say I've heard of anyone else getting blocked from the AHL.

That's just it. There haven't been that many players. The only other team I would think might make a stink about it is Tampa Bay with Jonathan Drouin. However, they did it right: "we don't think the kid is good enough to be here yet, so we're sending him down". The Sabres panicked with Grigorenko, played him with a bunch of players he had no business being with, and then cry and whine about how the rules are against them, instead of taking the approach that great teams do: "our best players play at the NHL level, period."

1. He isn't one of our best players.

2. Great teams do the exact opposite of firing youngsters in the lineup whether they're ready or not.

That's his point. Tampa Bay has a good team, they didn't toy with Drouin or dress him and let him struggle with 2 goons, they immediately sent him to juniors like an organization that has a clue should do.

Darcy screwed up not getting a center to replace Roy and Gaustad in the offseason.
That's how you end up with Kevin Porter as your 3rd center half way through the season

Buffalo GM Tim Murray has a decision to make on goalie Ryan Miller before the Olympic roster freeze kicks in on Feb 7. Does he deal him before he goes to Sochi? The Sabres are expected to make one last ditch effort to sign Miller but do they want to risk him getting injured playing for team USA and then not available for trade in March? Since he likely wouldn't accept a trade to Edmonton, the market is limited. The St. Louis Blues have been mentioned as a top candidate and GM Doug Armstrong knows they won't get many chances. The Blues will tell everybody they are fine with their goaltending, they aren't...

Speaking of Buffalo, agent Craig Oster of Newport sports may have declined an offer from Murray to be the Assistant GM.

Just a thought: If Rolston, whose only big strength is developing young talent, was our coach for the whole year, we'd be a lock for #1 overall---easily---instead of creeping up to the lofty spot of 28th, and maybe by now we'd be seeing improvement from 25 and the other kids. NOT SAYING I WISH HE WAS OUR COACH!

It rankles me just a wee bit that our coach of the past 16 years, and the coach before and after him, both have reputations of not being good at developing young talent (Tyler Seguin excluded).

Well I said at the time they should have waited another month to make the changes.

They're still looking at a top 2 pick, esp with Miller being traded at the deadline or sooner.

How sure are we that Miller is getting traded?
I don't think the market for goalies is high right now.
IMO, Miller resigns with us.

Realistically they could fall as low as 4th. That's if a team out of the bottom 3 wins the lottery. I would say as of today out of EDM, Buff, CGY, we are the best of the 3 right now

We could finish 2nd or 3rd, and still win the lottery.

I think he'll be moved. The Sabres will make one last pitch though.

Lots of games left, anything can happen. I think they'll end up 29th or 30th.

I guess Murray had a change of heart in removing the interim tag on Nolan, eh?

I would guess so. At this rate is be pretty suprised if we get the 1st pick. Edmonton needs to win a few games here soon

Shootout points are killing the dream. Although I'd bet there will be less fans angry than if it were to happen next year. Still plenty of offensive talent outside of #1 (who may wind up being a defensemen).

I agree mhp, from what I've heard Miller still wants to move on so I think he gets dealt after the Olympics.

Agreed I don't any other teams as a fit besides those two also.

Unless a team loses a goalie to injury, it could be a two horse race for Miller and that might push up the price to acquire him, ya never know. If the Av's lose Varlamov or the Wild lose Backstrom to injury, I could see those teams getting in the mix but I think at this point he's St. Louis bound.
