The Flames are all over Ek's rumour chart this year, but for some reason Cammy's nowhere to be seen...?

Apparently we're the top option for every leafs player that might move though... I'll start making the welcome posters for Kadri and Gunnarson now.

I bet Kadri ends up here. And I would bet Burke has already offered up Sven. (Not that would get it done)

Colin, sometimes your blogs go off in different directions & I find myself wondering what your point is. ie. Monahan. In one sentence you say we shouldn't be counting on his goals, then you say he needs to score. The kid is on target to score at least 20 goals, that's freaking fantastic for a 19 year old. My Lord, we don't see that too often in Flame country. Where is Stajan, Stempniak, Galiardi, Jones? These are the vets we are wanting to groom our young guys with? They cant even get a whiff of the net. I watched one bit of the 2nd where the Jets were cycling & Stempniak was just standing up by the blueline for the whole shift. I'm sorry, the panel are right, Flames need to have a firesale of every UFA coming up &get as much possible & then roll some of these returns into maybe some almost NHL ready kids that just need a chance they aren't getting on some of these other teams like Gardiner & Runblad & I'm sure we can find a few others. If we need $$$ to reach the floor, just over pay a few vets on 2-3 year deals in July & we can get some new fresh pilons to whine about. Back to my point, I finished reading your blog & I felt a negative tone of disappointment with Monahan. I don't think we should be disappointed at all with him, he may not win a Calder but he has had a great start to a long NHL career.

Valid point, and here was my logic.

In a perfect world, as a 19 year old rookie, the Flames shouldnt rely on Monahan for his scoring. That said, and because they decided to keep him as he improves the team....in addition to the fact that they are experiecing a scoring slump, they "unfortunately" need to rely on him a little more. If he starts to score some more, the team may be able to balance the goals for/goals against a little better, thus resulting in more wins or closer games again.

At the moment, they are getting blown out or held scoreless....when he was scoring, it wasnt the case. Point is - they shouldnt need to, but theyll have to with Cammy missing and their current struggles.

(but you're right...hes doing damn good all things considered and its a shame they could really use him to pot a few extra ones)

Just like the Oilers could use their 85 first rounders to pot a few.

that would be an absolute steal for the flames....cammy not on the rumor chart is pretty stupid

Jets fans are idiots...never seen fans so happy about a team that is out of playoff contention in January

They are just happy to have a team (many of the fans had to convert from other teams they were forced to cheer for when the Jets left)...I'd argue that the honeymoon is over in the Peg and they will want drastic changes if they fail to make the playoffs this year.

I'm not a fan of Kadri, would rather keep Sven-especially if it costed us Sven + to get him. I'm sticking to my Bennett and Despres pipe dream . Besides the leafs will want a centre if they trade Kadri, and looking at Backlunds play as of late, I do not want to give him up (could potentially be the leader of our forwards through this rebuild)

Do you even see our lineup? Butler hasn't been that bad considering. Easy target I know but at this point he's outplayed Brodie.

Hey I've been talking Butler up for the last month or so (O.T winner). I think we should deal him this year while he has some value, but I know his value still isn't very high. The joke is, once the leaf fans wander over here (rumour boards will help with that) they will expect the world for either of those players.

One of Russell or Brodie will get moved. More chance there than Sven I think.

Flip Russell...older, raised his own stock, could be a good opportunity for both the org. and the player.

I wasn't saying to trade him. Go back to the Leaf thread.

You forget that Burke has said nothing good about Sven since he got here. He doesn't like him and he's not a Burke style player. I'm sure one of those guys will get move first but I wouldn't count out sven being dealt either.

the honeymoon is over in the Peg

Most overused phrase in sports this year.

Jets should be closer to 8th than they are now. With 7 players at 10 or more goals, the talent is decent enough, but the effort has been embarrassing. Winnipegers will get nasty when there's no effort.

Burke's not stupid. With Monahan in the NHL, Sven is our top prospect. I'm sure he'll be given the chance to impress Burke, just like Kadri.

And actually he has said some nice things, when talking about his jr years. He just doesn't like his game at the NHL level yet.
