How do you judge failure on a team that struggles defensively?
Look at Toronto, Reimer and Bernier are their best players this year, but their numbers look horrible. - moondawg
Bernier has a .926 sv% and Reimer is a .918sv%. If Dubnyk had Reimer's numbers the Oilers wouldn't have made any deals today.
Their numbers are not horrible, at all. |

Scrivens numbers will get worse playing in Edmonton.
Dubynk's numbers will improve playing in Nashville.
A goalie does rely on the team to play defense in front of him. And their numbers reflect that.
To call Dub a terrible goalie, after what the Oilers have done this year is pretty lame Matt. - moondawg
And if Luongo let in half the soft goals that Dubnyk has this year you guys would have already lit your city on fire again. |

You know bad teams can still get good goaltending, right? |

His .915 career Sv% in over 100 games (on a borderline AHL team) prior to this season says otherwise. |

Yes. This team got that from Dubnyk for 3 years. |

Oh sorry, I look at GAA, as well as SV%. So should you. |

Oh my god, no. No you should not ever look at GAA and ever think it outweighs sv% at all. Ever. GAA is about how many shots are directed your way. Sv% is about what percentage of shots you actually make. GAA is essentially a team stat and sv% is what the Goalie is doing back there.
Whoever told you to value those two things equally was dead wrong. Stop it. |

I'm not here to fight, I just think Matt's comments about Dub's being horrible is a little unfair.
I like Scrivens, and I think both the deals are good for you guys.
I also think you need to get better defensively, more than just what the goalie does. |

Fair enough. That team number is important though, isn't it.
You should be trying as a team to keep that number down. |

Let's be fair he's been a terrible goalie this year. Here's an interesting piece on TSN in the Numbers Game article regarding the trades:
"From 2010-2011 through 2012-2013, Dubnyk had a .917 save percentage. Among goaltenders with at least 100 games in that span, that placed Dubnyk 12th, in the same territory as Sergei Bobrovsky, Kari Lehtonen and Carey Price; pretty good company." |

For many clubs it would have been a bad deal, given that they have not been drafting top end of every round for like 4 or 5 years. For the Oilers it made sense.
Still wonder if this season, part of his success was due to the Kings system and being coached by one of the very best goalie coaches in all of the NHL. None better than Bill.
Quick, Bernier, Scrivens comes in and does well. Jones come ups and records 3 shut outs in like 8 games, tags the Ducks with 1 of 2 non regulation losses at home winning a 9 round shoot out not giving up a goal.
Hope Scrivens succeeds seems like a great guy.
As they do in all arena's they put up video and ask players to name that song or caption this picture usually of another player. Scrivens was by far one of the funniest guys to comment. His tweets are great. In the short time he was here, Kings fans really enjoyed him. |

Bo has been confirmed to have been coming over, but Slappy's future is still in question. - MaximumBone
I'd love if we found a way to bring both over but either way neither one will be in the NHL next year. |

dubs had some solid numbers behind a horrific defence allowing a fukload of quality shots last year. was like middle of the pack last year.
struggled mightily early this year which magnified the losses later on when he began playing a little better.
i dont think he's a horrificly bad goalie.
hopefully he can put it together in nashville |

Oh yeah. Even if his sv% remains the same in Edmonton then his GAA is going to balloon, because Oilers. |

With dubnyk you know two things night in and night out
1)he will make a majority of saves, even an occasional outstanding one. I think he's a consistent 0.910% goalie which is decent. That first stretch of games were bad.
2) he's going to let in a back breaking weak one
It's number 2 that drove him out of town. He will be a good backup for Nashville just not a guy you want as your playoff goalie. |

I like Matt Greene and Mitchell from LA. Older, but good stay at home guys. And yeah, Girardi is good.
Timonen and Mezjaros in Philli are pretty decent too. |
