I don't think unloading pending UFA's is a bad idea. It gives us a chance to try out a few players from OKC for a few games.

Made out like gang-busters yesterday. Anyone who thinks these were bad trades are insane. All 3 teams involved in these two trades are now better off today.

Oil still have to keep working at that D. Scrivens isn't going to be some savior in net, but I do agree he is a better goalie than Dubnyk and probably Bryz as well at this point in his career.

Hendricks is a good pick-up. Guy is gonna bust his ass and Eakins is going to reward him with ice-time until others start to catch on and match his intensity level.

Fair enough. I don't know about my fellow Oilers fans, but I'd accept that deal with enthusiasm!

OKC sucks, not like there are a ton of guys that deserve action. That's the problem.

To me the big thing is Scrivens is coming in with confidence. Dubnyk needed a change in scenery. Scrivens has 30 games to show his stuff, hopefully he grabs the reigns and goes.

I liked the Hendricks add, functional toughness and hard work. Exactly what this team needs.

Next are Gagner and Hemsky I hope.

i question some of the freeagent signings that murray has made in teh past (although signing macarthur this year makes up for a lot of it).....but you have to give it to him and his team, they really scout and draft well....and some of the trades he's made in the last 2-3 years have been brilliant.

his 3 biggest trades in the last 3 years:

ottawa has added - turris, ryan, anderson

ottawa gave up - elliott, silfverberg, rundblad, noessen, 1st rd pick, 3rd rd pick

pretty solid if you ask me.

it sucks that he let alfi walk, but i think that was 100% on melnyk, not murray.

About the worst thing about the hockey blogosphere is that a team's roster moves are judged almost entirely by the quality of the team. "EDMONTON MADE A TRADE? HOW DARE THEY! DO THEY THINK THIS MINOR MOVE WILL HELP! PLAN THE PARADE"

One day in the future, the Oilers will be good, and some team like San Jose will have naturally gone in a down turn. They'll make a trade like the Dubnyk-Scrivens move and Doug Wilson who right now is extremely highly regarded as a GM will get absolutely trashed for this minor and not unhelpful move. And I will have bookmarked this post and I'll play it gleefully like a surprise full house on the river and all of hockeybuzz will see what twats they've been all along.

Spector said the Preds may be interested in Gagner. I wonder if we could pawn off both Hemmer and Gags in one trade?

I'd like a defenseman from them but we won't get Weber and Jones. Can't see us prying Josi away either (at least using Gagner).

I don't think management was going to resign Dubnyk. Scrivens brings some fresh blood and hopefully the desire to try and prove he can be a #1. I think he will either be resigned before the deadline and if not traded, so worse case scenario we pretty much get back what we paid for him. I wouldn't mind us resigning him and look as signing Khudobin and get 2 guys that want to prove themselves starters battle it out and compete with each other and use the extra money from not overpaying for a UFA starter and putting that towards our defense.

As for Hendricks, I agree with Morris. Who cares about his salary, its irrelevant. That extra $600,000 - $800,000 that people think he is being overpaid isn't going to break us salary cap wise. In turn we get a vet, which is nice, that can play 4th line center, win face-offs, hit, fight and play PK as well. Whats to complain about?
