I think Dubnyk could do well in the Trotz system, which is far more defenisve and trap minded than Edmonton's open play style. Likewise I highly doubt you;ll see Scriven achieve anywhere near the same numbers at EDM that he did in LA.
You'd need a goalie like Miller in EDM to really experience a boost between the pipes. Someone who has shined in a team that plays a system (or in BUF's case no system) for more attack-minded focus. - AlexF
Some good points but if the oilers can extend scrivens (which is likely) and shore up their D in the off season it could turn out just fine. With Nurse (and potentially Ekblad) coming down the pipe and the addition of another vet D-man or two this could be the turning point to the oilers future. Won't have much of an impact on this season but I don't think that was the point. |

The bottom line is we are a better team today... Good work by MacT - saskoil21
Wait till they play a game for Edmonton before making these calls. I don't think it's that straightforward. |

Edmonton shipped out a brutal Goalie and a 3rd round pick and got back a physical presence for their bottom 6 who is also a penalty killer along with what may be the answer to their questions in Net. I cant believe there were so many people who hastily labeled any part of these moves as bad for the club.
This paragraph here sums it up perfectly. This draft class doesn't appear to be deep, I'm sure we will be picks back by the TDD. Our bottom 6 is tougher now, same with the PK. And our goalie scenario looks promising again! - ChetManly
I dont even think Dub is a bad goalie i bet he does very well in Nash. |

Change is as good as a rest they say...Hopefully Dubie will "refind" his game.....in the mean time I like the moves.....any time you can pick up a goalie of Scrivens caliber for a 3rd rounder.....it makes you wonder "what took so long?" - Rhino
backup goalie for 3rd rounder....sure, why not.
Scrivens is no better then Dub, you will find this out very quickly. |

Hard to disagree that Scrivens results are going to be dramatically different that what he had in LA... As for Edmonton - I think the expectations are at an all time low so any improvement will gain much support from the teams fanbase really... As for Miller - he is overpriced and his play was not much if at all better than Dubnyk last year anyway.... |

He will do better than he did in Edmonton with a much better defense in front of him. Scrivens could end up shining too since he will be playing for a contract, but that is probably a little optimistic given the current defensive corps the oilers have to work with. |

We traded a pick for a player that will add to the team and swapped out goalies that from our standpoint ours was brutal... see my other post... |

Dunbyk probably needed a change, he has the ability to be a decent goalie, but clearly he was struggling mentally. Scrivens doesn't have to be amazing for the Oilers for them to consider it an upgrade, hell even an average goaltender(in terms of sv%) this year would have been nice for them. |

Agree with this but I think "turning point" might be making too much of this trade. This is the 3rd team in a year that Scrivens will have played on. The jury is very much still out if he's got the chops to make as a consistent #1 in this league.
Getting those Vet D men that you mention, especially if they were of the legit top 4 variety, that might be the turning point you're after. All this said only time will tell. |

I think Scrivens will help, Hendricks not so much, but he could be a good veteran for the locker room. |

So I remember not long ago every oiler fan on here said Dub was worth a 1st easy and is waaay better then Riemer. What happened to that huh? - jake24242

He could for sure, but hes not strong enough a goalie to be a difference maker. |

A goaltender is only as good as his defense. The results will be marginal but at least they are trying to infuse new blood into the roster. |

You might want to check that statement. Miller has recieved nothing but praise from all corners of the media for his play this season on a team that is arguably no better (or even worse) than the Oilers. Achieving a .928 sv% with that team over 31 games (workhorse) is stellar.
That said, Miller does seem to channel his inner freak during Olympic years. It seems like he wasn't interested in Canada anyways so we're just spinning our wheels here. |

I meant that if Hendricks is actually much of an upgrade. |
