Oh my god, no. No you should not ever look at GAA and ever think it outweighs sv% at all. Ever. GAA is about how many shots are directed your way. Sv% is about what percentage of shots you actually make. GAA is essentially a team stat and sv% is what the Goalie is doing back there.
Whoever told you to value those two things equally was dead wrong. Stop it. - Matt_Henderson

Get Girardi or niskanen hopefully both.

3RD ROUNDER
The Oilers gave up a 3rd round pick to the Kings for Ben Scrivens.
Alas 2014 3rd rounder, for we only knew thee for so long.
Who am I kidding, even a high 3rd round pick is still in longshot territory to make the NHL and the Oilers need more 18 year olds like they need a hole in the head. Any Oiler pick out of the 1st Round is available and there aren’t that many left. If you fill the comment section of this article with examples of 3rd rounders who made it then I will retaliate with the list that didn’t.
Not with Lombardi, he really has a good track record of second through 4th round draft picks making the kings roster. |

Ya we need a big second line centre in the west. 6'1 and 210. Wouldn't be opposed to ekblad though.

I'd be ecstatic if we could:
turn gagner into Anisimov
Turn a pick into McGinn
Sign kulemin to 3.5, girardi to 5 and niskanen to 4 mill contracts. Sign ott as well. I think those are fair salary estimations based on overpaying free agents.
Draft draisaitl if no fair value trades arise.
Obviously all unlikely besides the draft but wishful thinking.
Hall nuge Perron
Yak anisimov eberle
Kulemin Gordon McGinn
Smyth Hendricks ott
Only issue above is both niskanen and girardi are right hand shots. Be nice to grab both and move petry for a lefty.
Wishful thinking. But we likely have the cap room. - ystoil
You will be paying 5 mil a year for a 4th liner. |

Maybe it's a little bit of wishful thinking. One of niskanen or Girardi and then hope klefbom makes similar strides like marincin? I dunno |

Well, no bold move yet, and there may not be one. Morrison on Sportsnet today said that the word around the league is that the Oiler management is over-valuing its players, making it difficult to get a significant trade done. Spector complained that the Oilers don't have the right blend of players (surprise) and that the kids don't have the support of other types of players who can help them compete. So, with the combined overvaluation and not much help in the near future in the organization, prospects are bleak for improvement. Signing UFAs can help, if they can be convinced to go to Edm, but really they have to trade some of the kids to get much needed pieces to add size and D. |

Dubey is one of the worst golaies in the NHL and will be out of the league shortly - Bones
Plenty of knobs on here sharing their 2 cents, but do t even display their teams. Lame. |

Almost every team overvalues their players, especially their young ones, so that's nothing new. Also, Sportsnet sucks. |

Nothing really spectacular happened here. But maybe a couple new bodies will help. They need to get rid of a few people who have are there and are used to losing.
Having said that they need to improve more than this, or they'll just be bringing in more people and teaching them how to lose.
But, these trades were better than nothing. - beingaflamesfan

Some good points but if the oilers can extend scrivens (which is likely) and shore up their D in the off season it could turn out just fine. With Nurse (and potentially Ekblad) coming down the pipe and the addition of another vet D-man or two this could be the turning point to the oilers future. Won't have much of an impact on this season but I don't think that was the point. - NEEDSMORHORCOFF
The impact could be a negative for Scrivens' confidence as he'll be seeing a lot more rubber than he ever saw in L.A. But, if he doesn't work out, we'll not extend him and he'll sign as UFA somewhere else. |
