I think scrivens resigns. He's from spruce grove my hometown and less than 20 minutes away from Edmonton. He had pretty good success under Dallas Eakins and has the opportunity to take the ball and run with it. |

Hendricks is really bad. - Jack-artist
That has nothing to do with the issue of retaining salary. |

Reimer has been great for the Leafs until the crap the Leafs pulled with him this year....Terrible!!!
Reimer to Edmonton would have solidified their need for a starting goalie. Scrivens is just more of the same crap they are used to. - Cooshie
Oh you mean give him competition for the job? Yeah that's a great sign folds like a cheap suits when he doesn't get his way. He got the same treatment from Ron Wilson with gussy. What goes around comes around. |

yeah but surely we could have retained salary without having to take a player on a bad contract back. |

The Scrivens deal will be judged on if they can re-sign him and for how much
If MacT signs him for anywhere north of 2.9 for more than 2 years - then he is off his rocker |

Heres the problem though. Unless they do something else to further improve their overall strength, they miss the playoffs again...
As things stand, Oilers would need to win 30 of their remaining 33 games(projected playoff cutoffs) this year for an 8th place finish.
These moves needed to happen a long time ago. But, at least something is being done...I think... - Colin Dambrauskas

Eakins knows Scrivens well from his Toronto Marlies days. Scrivens has posted good numbers in every league he has played in.
HE IS HEAD OVER HEELS BETTER THAN DUBNYK!! - 13LEAFS01
Actually, up until this year, Dubnyk has had better career numbers then Scrivens has ever posted. This year Scrivens was sheltered on a great LA team....he'll go back to his usual career numbers or worst (Edmonton factor) now that he has been traded.
Going from Dubnyk to Scrivens is no improvement and Edmonton will learn this within a half dozen games. |

I think MacT wanted a player, and maybe he chose poorly on Hendricks.
I really don't think he was trying to get rid of Dubnyk for futures. |

A year ago, or whenever this was being proposed, Dubnyk and Reimer were statistically similar, Scrivens was statistically worse, and if someone came in suggesting the oilers give up (significant) assets for what seemed like a latteral move, I can't imagine that it was that well received.
I'm willing to bet the topic wasn't "Oilers fans: independent of any interest in acquiring him, how good is James Reimer for the Leafs?" but rather "James Reimer <--> XXXX + XXXX + XXXXX". The way the question is framed has a lot (in my experience on hockeybuzz, almost everything) to bear on how charitably the subject is received.
On people's excitement, I think that a) you're misrepresenting how excited people are and b) they're excited in comparison to the bad goaltending we've received, not simply because of Scrivens' attributes. - Morris
They were saying the same thing this year too even when dubynk was poopting the bed. Yes they were getting stupid deals too this time but the basis of saying reimer is the same as dubynk isn't corrected.

lahey's been all over this for awhile.
we'll soon find out if scrivens was a product of la's stifling system.
scrivens certainly wasnt able to kill it behind a porous defence in toronto.
either way, dubs needed to go probably and this could work out |

So, will that make him want to play for Edmonton, or want to leave?
Not trying to be funny, an honest question. Didn't realize that he was from the area.
Sometimes players don't want to play in their hometown. More distractions/etc |

If at any time during this season the majority of Oilers fans said that Dubnyk was a better goalie than Reimer, short of replying to a troll I would love to see a link to that.
I simply cannot believe that. |

He's better than what we have on the 4th line by a bit, but I dunno, I'm not sure about having replacement type players on long term deals. Whatever, doesn't hurt us too too much provided we don't continue loading up on Hendricks-types. |
