Scrivens is a lot like Dubie 2.0 at this point. young, lot of potential. Unproven.

At least his confidence isn't shattered

Hey Chet,

I just got to the "Bastard Chef" episode last night. Your name now makes sense.

New season just started this week, I'm giddy with excitement.

Hendricks has bad possession numbers through out his career(he'll fight right in), is 32 years old and makes 1.85 million until he's 35. Preds fans were happy to get rid of that contract. He's an okay 4th liner at best.
- Nucker101

What risk is there really? 1.85mil is peanuts really.

Oh Man....

Scrivens is going to sh*t the bed in Edmonton - it is going to get ugly.

Scrivens is nothing more then a backup goalie at best...

Silly trade by Edmonton...not really addressing any issues.

everyone? every oilers fan?

For the record, No one thinks Scrivens will single-handedly save this team. No goalie will.

- Morris

Majority of people on this board were against reimer anything, for the record I don't think he's that great.

I'm not saying scrivens is going to save the season. You complete missed the point of this. We didn't want a better goalie but now we are excited about his back up.

Sweepstakes

Elliott is a big prize. Too bad you lost out on him for a lower quality backup.

Both of these trades are good. As questionable as Hendricks is, he is a bigger player, and better than Smithson and Brown. Dubnyk always had a hazy future in Edmonton, so the time has come to let him go. Ben Scrivens is solid, and has an opportunity to get a #1 spot here. It's not like Bryz is our savoir.
- ChetManly

Wouldn't surprised me Eakins had a suggestion in this for Scrivens since there's a marlies relationship.

Is Scrivens going to re-sign? If not, this seems like a whole bunch of movement for basically nothing if he walks at the end of the year.

Will turn out to be a 3rd (which is almost a 2nd) for a 4th liner who is signed for several more years at too much money.

Agreed....it's not much risk for the Oilers either, and they get a decent player in Hendricks. Not blockbuster material but low risk and it switches things up.

Hopefully they can improve their team defence before Scrivens becomes Dubnyk 2.0

- The-O-G

Heres the problem though. Unless they do something else to further improve their overall strength, they miss the playoffs again...

As things stand, Oilers would need to win 30 of their remaining 33 games(projected playoff cutoffs) this year for an 8th place finish.

These moves needed to happen a long time ago. But, at least something is being done...I think...

Eakins knows Scrivens well from his Toronto Marlies days. Scrivens has posted good numbers in every league he has played in.

HE IS HEAD OVER HEELS BETTER THAN DUBNYK!!

??? Anyone that thinks either trade today was bad needs to (frank) off.

We are a better team today than we were yesterday. And at least MacT is trying to make things happen.

Reimer has been great for the Leafs until the crap the Leafs pulled with him this year....Terrible!!!

Reimer to Edmonton would have solidified their need for a starting goalie. Scrivens is just more of the same crap they are used to.

Why is it of any consequence whether we're keeping half of Dubnyk's salary or not?

A) We've got tons of Cap Space
B) The Cap Hit is a paltry 1.75 for the next two months, and the pro-rated salary is about 900k.
C) None of you are Darryl Katz

Honestly, can anyone explain their objection?

- Morris

Hendricks is really bad.

A year ago, or whenever this was being proposed, Dubnyk and Reimer were statistically similar, Scrivens was statistically worse, and if someone came in suggesting the oilers give up (significant) assets for what seemed like a latteral move, I can't imagine that it was that well received.

I'm willing to bet the topic wasn't "Oilers fans: independent of any interest in acquiring him, how good is James Reimer for the Leafs?" but rather "James Reimer <--> XXXX + XXXX + XXXXX". The way the question is framed has a lot (in my experience on hockeybuzz, almost everything) to bear on how charitably the subject is received.

On people's excitement, I think that a) you're misrepresenting how excited people are and b) they're excited in comparison to the bad goaltending we've received, not simply because of Scrivens' attributes.
