New season just started this week, I'm giddy with excitement.
I would pay money just to watch H.Jon Benjamin tell stories and make random obscure references

- ChetManly

did you watch Dr Katz and Home Movies? If not check out both series. H Jon has been a fave for 15 years thanks to those 2 series

Just having a couple new bodies COULD help, but nothing huge here I don't think.

Just silly - Leiweke got his man Bernier and nothing was going to stop him from being the starter.....
Look at Reimer's career numbers..they are VERY good.

- Cooshie

Yep and so are bernier numbers he just hasn't played as much because he was behind quick. The deal for bernier was started long before Tim was brought in. If reimer so great why was there always talk about bringing in another goalie?

to be fair...there isnt much they can do right now to try and make the playoffs....cut off is likely 95pts for the West, and they have 35 with 33 games remaining. So they need to win 30/33 games to have a shot.

Moves should have been made awhile ago...and Im not here to throw it in anyones face, just baffled as to why the team allows themselves to struggle without trying to fix things at a quicker pace.

- Colin Dambrauskas

I just believe that they should have kept their 3rd and gone after Scrivens on July 5 as they invested in Bryz at the loss of Smid

Wouldn't surprised me Eakins had a suggestion in this for Scrivens since there's a marlies relationship.

this season is done.

it isnt about that

both mngmt and dubs probably wanted a change. and they saw an opportunity to get a guy that is signed and provides a few things they need going forward.

but still needed a backup for bryz. and got one with some potential that has played well lately. certainly better than dubs anyway. but with no real risk as he can walk at the end of the year if in fact he was just a product of la's system

lets stop talking about the smid trade too.
he's not terrible, but he wasnt doing much for us. we saved some money long term, and got a bluechip goalie in the system. which we didnt have before.

second guessing is fine. but none of these moves are a mystery when one looks at the big picture.

Yeah, though Scrivens on the UFA may have very well gone elsewhere. Now they have their prime shot to sign/extend him...but again...I was hoping the Oil would make some stronger moves is all.

Overpaid grinder.

1.8 isnt terrible for any player really. maybe abit.

it's really only the term that doesnt look all that desirable.
we did need some proven nhl bodies with functional toughness though.

For example Yeti, anything said after this opening gambit, I wouldn't really count as a levelheaded and objective analysis.

EDIT: beat me to it.

I'll be sure to scold the Oilers fans on the other end next time they pump up Scrivens and say we don't need Ward or Hiller now.

Because bringing him in right now gives us the inside track on resigning him.

the only thing that would make sense after these moves today is to trade bryz

Agree with you here...but Im not looking outside of the big picture. All recent six moves the Oilers have been apart of have been, well, marginal at best. They have failed to climb out of the leagues basement, it should have been apparent to make a move or three about 15 games ago...why keep "writing" off years...this mentality has to eventually work against team morale etc
