The Kings have a very strong defensive team. They scored just enough to win. Whenever they had a lead, they could lock things down. This Flyers team is not capable of that.
- PhillySportsGuy

Quick was the only reason they won a cup, make no mistake about it. He had better numbers than Hasek.

That's not necessarily true.

They were playing well but extremely unlucky which led to average results. Their luck turned at the right time.

NOOOOOOOOOO! They acquired jeff carter and became unbeatable!

Can you elaborate? This feels like you should have some statistics to possibly back this up.

They couldnt score goals all season long, Quick held them in all season. They gelled at the end. Any team that makes the playoffs has a chance. I didnt think the Flyers were good enough to make the finals in 2010 with Boucher/Leighton..... but they did. Thats all that needs to be said

That is a mistake.

Quick played well and the numbers he posted were deserving of the Conn Smythe, but he plays behind a great team.

Do you think Ben Scrivens and Martin Jones are also two of the best goalies in the league also? That somehow LA has managed to acquire three of the best guys in league? Or, perhaps the team in front of them makes them look better than they really are?

Acquiring Jeff Carter certainly helped.

Nothing wrong with statistics to back up a point.

I don't even necessarily disagree with you. I was more interested if, say, possession stats backed up your assertion.

Apparently you didnt watch Quick play that playoffs, his defense left him out to dry plenty of times, unbelievable saves. The Kings are not some dynasty team dude. They are good but what seperates them from other teams is the best goalie in the world. As far as Scrivens and Jones... You dont actually think they could hold that play up for a long period of time or in the playoffs do you??

that team couldn't score goals all season. the D and G were there. they squeaked in and rode clutch play to the end. it can happen.

So those 20 games in the 2012 playoffs are a better indicator of Quick's true talent than the 300 games of regular season experience?

Quick had one great, magical year. He's not the best goalie in the league or the world.

They were a great Corsi team all season, but they couldn't finish. They added Jeff Carter, started scoring and Quick remained red-hot through the playoffs.

Great third period last night.

Im confused if you could help me out. Was talking to some Philly Fans yesterday. Want to see if the opinions here are the same on Streit, Vinny and Hartnell.

Did they win a cup no. They got killed by the pens. Look at the defensive stats for that team they were better. if you really want to do a side by side comparison of the defensive stats for the 2009 team to the current team id be more than happy accommodate.
- PhillaBully

I wasn't talking about the 2009 team. I was talking about the 07/08 team...unless the 09/10 team only made it to the EC Finals.

Edit:
The 07/08 team gave up an average of 2.77 GA/GP with that oh-so-stellar defense.
The 13/14 team has given up an average of 2.74 GA/GP with their oh-so-horrible defense.

General consensus:
Streit is signed too long for too much.
Vinny is meh.
Hartnell is terrible at hockey and should be traded ASAP.

5 points separate teams 2-7 in the Metro division. They're all bubble teams.

3 point games and salary cap = lots of bubble teams

Well, clearly they weren't working hard enough and needed to play harder.

I don't get why the hate for an ugly win. Usually good teams win ugly games, that's what separates them from bad teams. No doubt this team has flaws, but expect for Hawks, Blues, and Ducks, doesn't everyone else?

7 Double digit goal scorers on this team. Lead the league. That's balance people.

I'll never understand why they added Robyn Regeher to that team.

Opinions vary. We all agree that they're all overpaid. Hartnell is real good when he's on his game. All 3 are streaky and look terrible when they aren't scoring.

Vinny was the best Flyer forward in the first 10 games. Since then, he's been one of the worst.

Streit is always a defensive liability and wasn't scoring at all to start the season. He's been scoring a lot more lately which offsets his poor defense.

Hartnell is Hartnell. He goes through long stretches of being great and long stretches of being awful. When the team is winning, his #Hartnelldowns are funny. When they're losing, it's frustrating.

I like Hartnell, but I'm not a huge fan of Streit and Vinny. I thought they were all hasty signings. They may come back to bite the team later on.
