Apparently they are having a really hard time about whether to order out for Chinese or Pizza

I'm not crazy about him either, but he would be our best Dman if he came here.
- JAKEw1234

Neither am I, but he has the ability to be a big time game changer on the back end if he was to be acquired. He's also got a Cup ring and has shown he can be a good playoff performer.

Gus is, and always has been, nothing more than a AHL call up. I firmly believe that. Love the guy, and wish I was wrong.
- Flyersgod

I agree. Flyers do need an upgrade at D. With Laughton coming up soon you have to believe that either Laughton or Coots will be packaged for a Dman. I definitely do not want to see the Flyers waste or slow down Laughton's potential (Like they did with Coots) by placing him on the 4th line when he does make the jump. 4th Line is for journeymen and their only job is to go out there and not get scored on while they are out.

At a different position on a line with potential HOF players.

Sidney's a whiny little B, no argument there, but on the spectrum of universally loved to universally despised, he sits a lot closer to the former than 88 ever will.

If I were starting a team from scratch, 88 wouldn't even be the first Flyer I would pick... I wouldn't hesitate to take Clarke over him, if the expressed intent was to elevate teammates and win a Cup.

88 was a great player... but he was self-serving and self-congratulatory to a fault, and that doesn't equate to success.

I have no... ZERO complaints about Eric Lindros.... Now Bonnie and Clyde.. err um Carl Lindros.... maybe. The only thing that people can say about Eric himself was the care he took before returning from injury... which as it turns out... is smart.

Goalies had huge pads back then too. IMO there where better goalies back then... Roy, Broduer, Kolzig, Burke, Beezer, Richter.....
- youarewrong

Average SV% has gone from .890's in the early 90's all the way up to .912-.914 in recent years. Over the course of thousands of shots, that's a lot of extra goals being stopped in the present era (like 50-70G per team). Goalies not only have better equipment, but the butterfly (and subsequent hybrid style) have matured since then.

Couple that with maturation of defensive hockey systems, and the increase in shot-blocking emphasis, and you pretty much made up for any disadvantage due to clutch/grab.

At 21 years old, Couturier is already one of the better two-way forwards in hockey. I'm not sure where you'd thought he'd be at this point, but I doubt he was held back.

I guess. The pressure is a bit different when you're the #1 defenseman though

There is... it's called tofu.

Cheese-making and tofu-making are virtually identical processes.

Sidenote: How badly would WIP callers screw up the pronunciation of Byfuglien's last name?
- johndewar

I have a friend who was telling me ab out a WIP caller who kept calling saying Voracek as if it were pronounced Vorassic (almost rhymes with Jurassic). Terrible.

I love Couturier and think he will win a Selke trophy or 2 someday. That being said, anyone who wouldn't move him in a deal for OEL, Pietrangelo, Subban or Weber is nuts.

With the Flyers depth at center, I'd have no problems trading him in the right deal.

If they can make tofu why can't they make cheese? It's all very confusing.

Probably because drinking and producing products from the breast milk of another animal seems kind of disgusting when you stop and think about it.... Chinese people are more averse to cheese than Westerners are to tofu, believe it or not.

Also, athletes of today are FAR better conditioned than they were 20+ years ago.

Look at some video of some of those goaltenders from the '80s. These guys don't appear to have been fitness nuts.
