i've been thinking about the constant thread in here about potential player moves, particularly on defense and it occurred to me that i'm really no longer emotionally attached to any of the players - even the best ones. if they were to somehow miraculously win the cup how would i "feel" about the team, now and for the long run? the last team i truly felt connected to was the 03-04 team. and that bums me out. don't get me wrong, i've been waiting my whole life for a cup...but i want to love the team also.
carry on.... |

I hope so, for them -- Hendricks is replaceable, but Dubnyk...man. I hang out in the Oilers threads from time to time, and it's pretty much a given that Dubnyk was the key reason why they were out of the playoffs by Thanksgiving.
Didn't even give them a chance, early on. - AllInForFlyers
Dubnyk has had an awful year, no doubt. But I think he's a good bounce-back candidate for next season.
Needs a change of scenery. I bet he'll play solid for the Preds. |

Your right, so why all the Couturier love and no Schenn love? As much as I like a Rod Brind"amour player or Jamie Langenbrunner or John Madden, I would rather have the Mark Recchi's or Danny Briere's. - youarewrong
I like them both -- Baby Schenn is looking like he's breaking out, which is great.
I'm not saying I wouldn't trade him...but I probably wouldn't. The deal would have to fit just right, though there are guys I'd do it for.
I've been pretty consistent in saying that the deal I'd look to make is Laughton, the 2014 first, a prospect like Ghost. Maybe a 2015 second-rounder.
That should get the Flyers something, enough to break the malaise that we have on defense.

The puck possession would be...I can't even fathom it.
You could deploy him in any zone, against anybody, and damn near every time, get whatever result you needed at that time, for that shift.
Good Lord.
It'd be like having Eric Lindros during the 115-point season, where you just sat back and waited for "amazing." - AllInForFlyers
I wish I could have seen Lindros vs Crosby in thier primes. I think it look like a pitbull tearing the stuffing out of a chihuahua dog toy. |

My deal would include Laughton, Simmonds, and if you need a kicker Read.... |

Boy...see, here's the thing. Is that really the best David Poile could do? Seriously?
That's why I don't understand that guy -- he goes all-in on Paul Gaustad, but you can't pony up for a goaltender who has at least played somewhat decently this season? When your team is built around defense and the goalie?
I don't know what's out there, obviously. But that deal smacks of what Poile's known for in my book: Never paying the price to be more than what you already are. |

Mostly the same, just tedious quarterly crap. Had an individual call today to schedule for late March. Old people are weird. |

I think the main thing that David Poile did was get out from that awful Matt Hendricks contract.
Second most important was buy low on a former first round pick. |

You do realize that Crosby is better that Lindros, right? By a healthy margin. And that's before you even take into account how he's elevated his team by bringing out the very best in guys like Dupuis, Kunitz, Colby Armstrong, etc.

Nashville isnt even close to the wild card in the west though. Rhinne should be back for next season so the question is, why over pay for a goalie now? I dont mind this move. |

HA! Yeah, I knew the Hendricks contract was ridiculous -- multiple years? Good Lord, man! -- but Dubnyk...
I do acknowledge that he has played well, at times, in the past.
But that .894...WOW. That just makes me want to cry.

No way shape or form is Crosby better. You cant go by stats because Lindros played at the worst of clutch and grab era. |

The goalies in this era more than off-set any of that... average SV% is miles ahead of where it was back then. |

I just saw Edmonton is retaining salary? This trade is a tough pill to swallow for Oilers fans imo. |

Hes not that good of a gm. Whether or not the weber deal will work out in the long term you don't let your superstar defenseman negotiate with someone else and be dictated his contract. |
