If I was a scout, that's what I'd say. He's...his hockey sense defensively is every bit as good as Patrick Kane's hockey sense offensively.

He will terrorize this league if he becomes a 60-75 point player.

If he becomes a 75-point player, I will bear his children.

In hindsight Nashville should be thrilled.... The flyers helped them lock up the best dman in the league for less than 8 million per season AND with no NTC of any sort. That's better than they did with Suter without the flyers help

Well, yes, with the new cap restrictions, it was a huge win. If the Flyers had waited the extra year, there's no telling if he might have gone to NJ or NYR or something. So at least he's out West.

Seth Jones and Dougie Hamilton (maaayyyybbbbeeee Trouba) would be the only guys I'd part with Coots for, mainly because I'm assuming they'll be in the league for as long as Coots will be, and they would fill a similar niche in the salary-structure as Coots moving forward.

And Erik Karlsson is only 23.

Again, he's on an identical contract to Petro. If it's Coots, I'd hope it would be a guy that hasn't broken the bank yet.

Glad to see we are WAY back to over-valueing Coots again. Come on people. I think at best he becomes Rod the Bod Brind'Amour. Which is pretty darn good. No reason to put him on a no-trade pedastool.

I mean hasn't B.Schenn really turned his game up a lot? I wasnt sure either was going to be taking any steps forward this year, and while both are... isnt Schenn taking the bigger step?

Is that some kind of kid's diarrhea remedy or something?

Seriously, if they had never traded Brindy for Prims, I'm thinking it's the Flyers with a Stanley Cup right now, not the 'Canes. Seriously.

Just looking at the possibility of getting a decent defenseman, and different routes to get him. And yes, I might over-value Cooter. I believe there is a lot of offensive hockey in him that we haven't seen yet. Or at least I am hoping there is...

Schenn may be the better point producer, but he'll never have Couturier's defensive game. It's like comparing Brind'Amour to Recchi (on a smaller scale). Recchi was the better offensive player, but Brind'Amour made up for the offensive difference with the rest of his game.

The puck possession would be...I can't even fathom it.

You could deploy him in any zone, against anybody, and damn near every time, get whatever result you needed at that time, for that shift.

Good Lord.

It'd be like having Eric Lindros during the 115-point season, where you just sat back and waited for "amazing."

Okay people, here:
In their primes, and salary cap aside, rank the order of who would you take:

Pavel Datsyuk
Chris Pronger
Zdeno Chara
Patrice Bergeron
Shea Weber
Randy Jones

Eric Lindros was the best hockey player I've ever seen. And I saw both Gretzky and Lemieux in their heyday. Okay, Lemieux was better.

Brindy was a stone's throw from 1200 career points, despite playing the toughest minutes of anybody out there... he was definitely no slouch.

Speaking of Recchi, it's too bad he's not here, otherwise they could have traded him for LeClair and Desjardins already.

We shouldn't condone their bad habits, but the flip side of the coin is we shouldn't condone the fact that this team is resilient, and this resiliency is winning them games.

You don't teach that.

Theorerically, you can practice away bad habits. Bad habits are fixable. You can't teach the comeback mentality and that is a huge commodity for a playoff team like this one.

Each and every night we see different players and lines stepping up. We see see a goalie in Mase who is good enough to consistently make the saves that need to be made and more. We see penalties being killed off....

There's a lot to like about this team. It's typical seeing some people only harping on the negatives.

We can criticize this team and these criticisms are warrented. However glazing over the shining bright spots on this team is ignorant.

See, we do agree on quite a few things -- Lindros is in the same breath at those guys.

Lemieux's the best player who ever played. I don't mind saying it. It's just true.

Then Nashville's getting bad news twice, because Dubnyk's the worst goaltender I've seen all year of teams I've seen multiple times.

That guy's been awful.

In thier primes.... And on a team that needs each specific position...

Pronger.... 5 times in a row... I mean he took 3 teams to the finals in what.... 5 years?
Chara... Almost Pronger like. But doesnt have the offensive skills
Datsyuk... He is the magic man. He reminds of what Giroux could be.
Weber... Great defender, but cant get his team over the hump.
Maata... The next Lidstrom"esq"
Not sure why the rest are on this list.

I hope so, for them -- Hendricks is replaceable, but Dubnyk...man. I hang out in the Oilers threads from time to time, and it's pretty much a given that Dubnyk was the key reason why they were out of the playoffs by Thanksgiving.

Didn't even give them a chance, early on.

The Bruins are an elite team because of both Chara and Bergeron (and a great supporting cast).

Why trade our Bergeron for a Chara? They need both.

*this is just an example of my thought process

Your right, so why all the Couturier love and no Schenn love? As much as I like a Rod Brind"amour player or Jamie Langenbrunner or John Madden, I would rather have the Mark Recchi's or Danny Briere's.
