Haha!
I'll try to remember that.
I wouldn't be opposed to moving Volchenkov for Briere as the $ & term work & this would get Merrill & Gelinas more playing time. Briere can play any position & various role's.
With the return of Elias & Brunner & the aquisition of Briere, if Montreal would possibly accept Volchenkov & I'm not 1 that likes to speculate NJ would look far better on paper.
If you want to keep the only line scoring intact. The Henrique line, then as such.
Brunner, Elias, Jagr.
Clowe, Henrique, Ryder.
Briere/Boucher, Zajac, Zubrus.
Carter, Gionta, Bernier.
Better yet lets try to reunite that line that looked so good in the preason before Clowe was injured & get Brunner back to his natural & more comfortable position at RW.

Devils beat writer Randy Miller of NJ.com makes a case for New Jersey to acquire veteran forward Daniel Briere from the Montreal Canadiens, saying that Briere may not be happy with his playing situation in Montreal, could be a top-line centre with the Devils and would be closer to his sons who live in Haddonfield, New Jersey.
Miller suggests that swapping Briere for defenceman Anton Volchenkov could work, as Volchenkov carries a $4.25 million cap hit through 2015-16 and Briere has a $4 million hit through next season

I would do that trade without thinking twice. Not sure Montreal would tho. |

Boucher should be in the minors right now, once Elias comes back there is no reason to keep the kid up here. He is clearly not ready and needs at least a full season in the minors. |

As long as it was for Volchenkov I could live with the swap. |

Oh yeah briere is an offense juggernaut - shvingter88
What's the solution then? The Devils need more offense and no one wants to part with any young talent. What about Gelinas for Moulson? |

No no no no
Why does everyone want lazy forwards? We already have brunner.
If I'm trading for a forward it's someone that'll fit into the devils mold better. |

He's been a healthy scrath and moved from the top six, I don't see why they wouldn't. |

If we're chasing forwards or centers, we need someone who can put up points on the power play. Don't think Briere fits that mold.
We could vulture one of them Jets players... |

Well that's scary, as Deboer likes checkers that don't shoot. He comes from the J. Lemaire school. The best game is won 1-0 in a shoot out. |

This is what I'm hoping for. Only benefit for trading Anton for Briere is to give us some space on the backend. But we just add another bad contract and take up a roster spot on offense for a guy who probably won't fit. With that said it would be better than nothing? I suppose it is . Rather us deal with the jets if we can though for sure. |

The only reason is the possible cost. Moving 1 bad contract or another, there by freeing up time so Gelinas & Merrill can develop faster by getting more games & minutes is reason enough. Briere has a reasonable amount left to give if expectaions are realistic. He would come in here & play 3rd line minutes; bump up as injury's dictate, 2nd line power play & help with leadership. He also shows up in meaningful games & can play all 3 forward positions. Getting 15 to 20 goals; maybe even nominally more, & 45 to 50 points at this stage over a full season would be a solid season & contribution.
If nothing else it would get Bernier off the power play entirely hopefully & limit who much power play time Zajac actually recieves.
Your not getting anyone you want off Winnipeg for Volchenkov. If you want Ladd, Little, Wheeler, Kane, Buffy the cost is higher than the benefit. NJ doesn't have much to give up & the prospect stable is almost bare accept for Gelinas, Merrill, Boucher & Matteau & the jury`s out on what we may have there. |

Just what we need a guy that shows up in the playoffs. We won't even make it there at this rate. |
