That is a hell of a goal.
I don't know if Berube has the imagination or confidence to make a move like that. - Feanor
It's like Brent Burns... SJ gave up a ton of assets to acquire him and signed him to a huge contract to augment their D... they tried to shackle him with structure and responsibility, tried to force him to go against his nature.
After a year+ of futility, now he's finally been turned loose to do what he does best, attack attack attack,, and the results have been good. |

I just don't think our slow-footed, soft, 35-year-old defenseman should be expected to get in on a constant line rush and produce as a forward. And I'm just not going to be convinced of that unless it happens and there are results. |

Also, I don't think giving Streit less time on defense will help keep our GA down that much when those minutes are going to go to Meszaros. |

What's wrong with Hall as a 4C? Winning almost 60% of his faceoffs, is adequate defensively (despite his +/-) and is an adequate secondary PKer. - jmatchett383
There's a reason that Hall was claimed off of waivers. Not a lot of teams wanted him. He's not that good defensively, he's slow as molasses, he's old (and not a good veteran prescence kind of old, just a worn down and slow kind of old), doesn't bring the energy that ideal 4th liners should have and he's very weak along the boards and in the corners. Some good names will be available at the trade deadline and I hope the Flyers take a chance on a D Moore, Bolland, Steve Ott, Fiddler etc etc. Any of those guys would be a HUGE upgrade over Hall. |

This. If it's a 2-horse race as to who's worse defensively, Meszaros beats Streit. If nothing else, I think Meszaros could at least do what Sbisa did as a forward (get the puck in deep, crash, and work the puck along the boards). |

The closer we get to the summer of 2015, the easier it might be to acquire Bobby Ryan. He's not going to sign long term in Ottawa and they definitely won't let him walk away for nothing. Did anybody see what Ottawa's GM said yesterday? If he's open to trading anybody (including Ryan), then maybe he's available now at a fair price. I think Voracek, Raffl and Laughton for Ryan would be a fair deal for both teams. Just playing fantasy GM though, don't mind me. |

He scored 60+ points in that season in the clip I posted... granted it was over 5-years ago... he was an outstanding swing man. |

Mez is already in the lineup... minutes would go to Gill/Gus (or even Manning/Alt/Lauridsen). |

I thought Mez would play with Grossmann and then Gus would go back to partnering Schenn.

I can only imagine how many penalties Ott would get called for as a Flyer. Giving away draft picks to rent a 4th line center is a bad idea for a team that it well away from being a contender like the Flyers. Those guys and their $3 million cap hits won't have a place here next season. |

He's said he's now open to moving youth to improve... but that doesn't mean he's willing to deal Zibanejad, Cowen, Ryan, Lehner, Turris or Karlsson. Think Conacher, Zack Smith, Greening, Condra, those types.

I don't think Bolland's going anywhere unless we give up more than Toronto did. Both he and Ott will take significant assets to acquire, and are going to be making $2.5M+ as your 4th line center if we resign them. I'm not so sure Dallas will be selling, so Fiddler may not be available. And I doubt the Rangers will be willing to trade to the Flyers unless it's some stupid overpayment.
Hall's not a top 4C in the league. He's a competent place holder who has a limited skill set and can give you adequate minutes. |

Why not wait one more year and get him for nothing but money?
That's a huge price to pay for Ryan. |

If they let him go to UFA, he's a player I actually would be okay with trading a pick (4th)/low prospect (another Clarkson-type) for his rights. Bryz and Streit, not so much. |

If Steve Ott were to be traded to the Flyers, the league would suspend him the second that the trade paperwork was received via fax.
/they use faxes in the NHL offices still, don't they?

I don't assume much of a spike in GA with Gus, Mez and/or Gill splitting Streit's ES minutes between them. Gus/Grossmann would be a pretty nice pair, IMO.

Left Wing Lock has Enroth starting tonight instead of Miller.
It seems as if the Flyers face a backup goaltender 75% of the time. |

That was their undoing the last 3-4 years. They'd go pot 5 on a guy like Luongo and then lose to Tye Conklin or Johan Hedberg. |
