Montreal played in Dallas 2 weeks ago and he looked like something else with Benn. i know he didn't come cheap but that was a stroke of genius by Nill.

True but to Burke's defense - Im sure he didnt project his team being so bad in attaining that 2nd overall pick - he was probably thinking that pick would have been 8 to 13 range

Never said you did just stating the facts for people to see.

Why should we pay them if we're not using their land? Here's some money for nothing. Native population gets a substantial amount of money when they turn 18 as well free education, especially here in Alberta. The natives have been well reciprocated for something that happened almost 300 years ago and happened in every part of the world over time. Tell me another civilization this was done for?

you don't think the Leafs would be better off right now and for the future with Seguin at #1 centre and Hamilton on D anchoring a second pairing than Kessel on the wing?
- DoubleDown

You can't make this comment. We have no idea where the Leafs would have picked if that trade was not made.

Kessel was worth it.

Well wind farms are before that and look how well they have taken off . Do you guys realize the Canadian govt profits largely from the oil sands and helps us all live the lives we have with free health care, quality education etc is directly related to the billions made off oil.

We traded for Kessel for two 1sts and a 2nd - worth it.

However, we have no idea what those picks would have been if Kessel was not a Leaf. You'd think that #2 overall pick would have been a #1st overall.. but that's a assumption.

well i think the answer is obvious and i know how much it stings: Gomez for McDonagh.

It's kind of interesting how the trade has developed through the eyes of Leaf Nation (generally speaking of course).

Time of trade: Burke lands future franchise winger, is able to wrestle a potential superstar from BOS because they have cap issues - jump starts rebuild by 3 years

End of 1st season: BOS selects Seguin with TOR's #2 overall pick - trade is a disaster and retarded the rebuild

End of 2nd season: BOS selects Hamilton with TOR's #9 overall pick - trade is even more of a disaster and retarded the rebuild

End of 2012/2013 season: Kessel is top 5 league scoring over past 3 seasons; Seguin is 3rd line winger and uneffective in playoffs; Hamilton still in and out of lineup and unaffective in playoffs; Seguin 'given up on' and traded to Stars - TOR clearly wins trade; Burke is a genius

Now - Kessel again on pace for 30+ G; Seguin has 21G/41Pts through 43 games with Stars; Hamilton avging 19mns/game on BOS's 2nd pairing - trade ummmmmmm meh

Next year?

Yup. If he hadn't gotten Kessel, You'd have Taylor Hall and 2 other assets....not even close to being worth it....

Why is Brennan not even getting a chance? Also why have the Leafs not signed Matt Rupert...I have Knights season tickets and see him play every game and in my opinion he is better than Ryan...Also Matts stats are better...

Oh you mean like grain based oils yeah the world has a food shortage now we're going to take away food to make oil. I don't see that being as viable as we'd like it to be.

Edit: E. coli like the disease?

i think the x-factor is Hamtilton. Seguin and Kessel could end up being a wash. they have the exact same stats ATM. but if Hamilton ends up being a top-pairing guy, then it really, really hurts.

so because Seguin is no longer in Boston, we have to assume that the Leafs would have nothing to show for that pick? well then by this logic, yes, it was a terrific trade for the Leafs.

Biofuels are the most laughably overhyped thing in modern history. AP did an extensive expose on the real harm that the "Ethanol Boom" has done in places like Iowa and Nebraska and all the green types could say was "AP iz in de pocketz of big oilz biofuelz are grrrrreat!"....and the extensive biofuel lobby in Washington agree.

USA must love the oilsands. It allows their population of well meaning but uninformed screaming hippie vagrants something to focus their odious attentions on while just as harmful or even worse environmental events occur on their own soil.

I thought you meant the trade in general not what we could have had which is all heresay anyways as we don't have access to info of what could have happened if we didn't get kessel.
