I think I already proved that it's possible and you make it sound harder than it is. - weirdoh

Dozzer, have you ever worked on or been part of regular surface drilling projects? It's not as easy as you may think... you can't just fly a drill rig up to the moon and land it where ever you like, make hole and call it a day at 3000m's - SofaKingBored
Imagine the size of cargo ship they'd need to make the incredibly long, dangerous trip back to earth...
(frank) it would cost trillions

Why not? There would be a learning curve but honestly.. Why can't we? |

That team in canada says they have a time frame of ten to thirty years.
Commercially yes, you're right.. But we will live to see the exploratory tech imo - Dozzer
In order to get more grant money, they have to present that kind of timeline.
The cost will simply be too much.
Humanity will consume itself probably before commercial space drilling.
The world is going to end.... Run for your lives! |

It's not even fathomable... you've probably seen drilling operations... my God, the ordeal they have just getting it done in cold environments like the Arctic... offshore? craziness... but other planets? lettuce beef real tea...

Oh be fair.. The forecasts of today are based in proven science. Also, computers are doing the work now ... Not humans.
Also, they do have flying car tech, you are required to have a pilots license however.
Also, where is the money in flying cars? There's no market. Raw materials however.... Especially when we start to bleed the earth completely dry. - Dozzer

I'm not saying there isn't challenges.. But when there is legitimate profit to be had just watch human ingenuity ... Let's face it folks... There are far smarter people than us walking this planet |

Because in a hundred years of drilling, we still can't do it like that on Earth... |

Well I guess there is too much pessimism in here.
Thankfully that's not the case world wide |

The cost, the machinery...... We're simply not that close to it. |

It's not pessimism......just realism. We have several huge hurdles to get over before we see successful commercial drilling in space.
That's not even including the political hurdles. |

You ever consider that the possibility lies beyond our intellect?
I know there are people who make me look dumb as a rock out there figuring this stuff out. |
