Doubtful that they would think Butler is an upgrade over Souray or Sbisa....

I agree with you but like many have said it might be hard to get fair value for the pick. Maybe you package the pick with Yak or Ebs and then see what kind of return you will get.

We need to accept the reality that in order to address certain needs we may not get fair value in a trade. You can't win every trade.

You may not always "win" the trade....but if you address your teams needs properly, you will still come out on top.

Exactly. Look at the Seguin trade. I think that long term Seguin will be the better player in the trade. But to address Boston's actual needs, and taking into account Eiriksson's injury, the Bruins will come out on top now.

Why does a team have to "win the trade". Maybe that is exactly why trading has become so difficult as teams are working too hard to try to "beat" the other team in the trade instead of them both working together to benefit both teams. Yeah sometimes it works out as an obvious winner, but there is the beauty of a purely "hockey trade".

To me this is what the Boston / Dallas trade was. Something equally beneficial to both teams, based upon their individual needs and goals. Boston wanted the greater impact and benefit now, while Dallas will see a better, long term return. Boston got a very good two way, more mature player to match up with Bergeron and Marchand, while Dallas got a potential number 1 center to match up with Benn.

Ya, I noticed he was there during the 3rd period of the Pit game. I think that was after Bouma got benched for sucking.

I'm still holding out hope for a 1st...weaker draft class means less risk for a playoff bound team. Though if an established young NHLer or higher than mid-level prospect were included with a 2nd that could also be acceptable.

You dont think Stajan goes this year? Even with the log jam at centre? Who do you think goes instead because something has to give there IMO

On Backlund wearing an A tonight:
Who is the last Flames draft pick to wear a letter?
Does this not imply they have high regard for his effort this year, and that he won't be traded?

I understand it is only one game, but this seems like a big deal to me. I honestly can't name the last time a Flames draft pick wore a letter. This is damning on so many fronts to the poor drafting, but also think it is a watershed moment for the franchise.
edit: Did Dion ever have an A? I am pretty sure he didn't...Regehr I thought but he was trade bait fro Col. Did German Titov wear a letter lol? The last Captain drafted by Calgary was Fleury until 97. Can not find list of assistants dor obvious reasons, but whoever knows the answer, I would be indebted. I have a feeling the answer is Fleury...

Ramo with a SO, finally.
Backs with a game winner assisted by Hudler.
Monahan with a solid pass from Byron
Gio and Brodie with strong games.
the core of a rebuild had a strong game. Oh, and an empty net post by Stemp

No way they trade backlund now. He has proven to be a 2 line centre and if not a third for sure. Love is game this year.

Still a long time ago, and before that it had to have been Fleury
