Someone needs to explain to me how that wasn't a slew foot on Tavares. That should have been another penalty. |

Donovan with a few really nice defensive plays on Mckinnon and Duchesne |

And grabner gets stick in the feet, tries to hold his balance, has nowhere to go but into the goaltender and they call it interference. Interesting. |

He's looked a bit indecisive, but being scratched or sent down for a mistake will do that to you. |

I have a question for those of you who would know better- it just seems to me that a goalie who is 6'4", 220+, with pads the size of two ten-year-old children strapped to his legs, would be better off coming out to cut down the angle, and staying on his feet until the puck hits him. I believe the "butterfly" exists because goaltenders (except Mike Liut) used to mostly all be 5'9"-5'10" at most, and that was the easiest way for them to cover the whole net. The thing is, a smaller man tends to be quicker insofar as the up and down movement is concerned- a big guy like him falls over like a tree, and then he's stuck sitting on his a$$ in the crease, trying to figure out how to move and cover the upper part of the net. Just wondering what you guys think about the idea of teaching the larger goalies to stand up more, and use their size to more of their advantage. |

Yeah, he needs to learn to fly through the air on that play... |

My personal preference is for them to butterfly, much more effective to take away the bottom of the net especially on screen shots.

Not going to blame the kid for that one- MacKinnon is too fast for far better defensemen than him... |

You typically want it the other way around. Taller goalies play the butterfly since the length of their legs allow them to cover much of the ice while the tall torso covers much of the net. Smaller goalies use the standup to allow them to recover for high shots. I've aleays preferred teaching standup myself |

I don't think we have anyone on the team who could have caught him, except maybe grabner, but he was flying.

actually, poulin was deep in the crease. He should have come out and poke-checked McK, spilled him and said welcome to the NHL. He barely got past Donovan before it was time to shoot. When I played goalie in a shootout, I ALWAYS came out and forced the player get around me. i never lost a shoot out. whatever..
Does anyone remember the last scoring chance they had in the 2nd period? (Grabners 2-on-1 aside. great defensive play) |

Good call. Poulin just saved Strome's bacon. Poulin deserves this game. |
