You cant ever have too much of a bad thing.

My philosophy is one that addresses one need and moves on. If I see things I don't like, Ill fix the smallest issue first; and then move onto the bigger issue.

Our D was the best with Erhoff in it, and since he's left, our team hasn't been the same. I think we should somehow address that role first. Wether is be through the draft, through FA, or through trade. Just my two cents.

Everyone has their own takes on things, and their own perspective. This is just mine. I hope I explained myself well enough that maybe you consider what im saying has merit.

Fair enough.

I disagree on Weber being the answer, especially at the cost of Kesler ++++.

He's not a replacement for Ehrhoff—their styles are almost polar opposite.

And I think that contract is a non-starter. It's horrible.

You do realize this is a low-level spit-balling hockey forum that is the ridicule of much of the hockey blogoshpere, don't you? I think you might be taking this site too seriously.

I don't research hockey enough to know the potential quality of GM candidates throughout the globe. I already mentioned several mentioned several moves I liked in Sakic and Kekäläinen. Yzerman was also a good move by TB. There are undoubtedly other possibilities out there that would be promising.

So fire now, think later. OK.

Wow, I said that where exactly?

MG has a long contract. Start looking for a replacement and make the change when you've found one. What I said was I'd have been looking for a replacement for about a year now (were I FA) and that's enough time to find one.

You like Gillis and want to stay the course. I think we can do better and would like to search for a replacement. Let's agree to disagree on this one.

Agreed. That ship, or any hope of it, sailed when he signed that contract.

Nope. Just goes to show how much we miss Erhoff.
- golfingsince

Agreed.

In hindsight, should've ditched Ballard earlier and loosened the purse strings a bit more for him.

In Gillis's defence, he did make a fair offer—identical contract as Bieksa's—but Bieksa's great playoffs and Ehrhoff's poor playoffs skewed their value a bit...

Yup, so start looking for a replacement of your GM after the most successful period in franchise history. You don't like Gillis, I get it.

You could've said the same about AV.

You could've, but history doesn't always repeat itself, and it's not a good enough reason to fire MG.

His seat's getting a bit hot, though.

A coach's message gets stale in a locker room, and AV was here 2 years before Gillis. Despite the hate, AV is probably still in the top half of coaches in the league.

I've always maintained that Gillis proclaimed that missing the playoffs was unacceptable. Until he does that, I think he's safe.

Yeah, I'm of similar mind.

Another bad trade or two could accelerate the process.

He doesn't have a lot of options this season, so I'm fine with status quo.

He better be working the phones the entire offseason, though.

Dane Fox with another goal tonight.

I know he's an over-ager, but 48 goals in 42 games is impressive

We've needed an improvement in the top six for years now. Our defence is just fine, whomever is even contemplating that Weber contract is nuts, as mentioned the cost to acquire him plus the contract itself would bring us one step forward and three steps back.

We can move Tanev & Edler to help acquire top six forwards and still have Hamhuis, Bieksa, Garrison, Stanton, Weber and Corrado. Pick up a depth guy at the TDL.

I'm not a huge Mike Gillis fan, but we have and remain a competitive team, we just need some top six guys and we're right there IMO.

We can move Edler to help acquire a top six forward with some size/grit and still have Hamhuis, Bieksa, Garrison, Stanton, Tanev and Corrado. No rental/treadmill moves at the TDL.

A youngish proven LW'er or 2nd line center would really improve the depth of the team. Higgins Santorelli Kassian should be our third line - depth depth and more depth is the key. Roll yours lines much like the Blues do.
