When you've just signed the "core" over the past 2 seasons to long term deals (or traded for them in JVR's case) I think you look outside the players for the time being. I would say Philly's skill level of their players is similar to the leafs so I don't see it being that much different.

How do you go to the owners and say "Yeah we just gave 15 million a year to Kessel and Phaneuf but we're going to trade them. Don't expect any playoff revenue for the next 5 years while we play our AHL team and use our first rounders."

I doubt Rogers and Bell bought this team to see it go through another "rebuild".

Besides didn't Ottawa or NJ go through a few coaches in quick succession? It happens. New business or company holds onto a guy to fire the entire team under them.

- Aaron85

I never said to start cleaning house and trade the core. But may a guy like Kadri, Kulemin, or Gardiner become parts of a trade to land you some piss and vinegar that this team is missing.

NOTE: I just named 3 off the top of my head as an illustration.

They did.
But Fraser cost them the chance. You simply let Wayne get to a game 7 against the Leafs.

meh.. its an excuse for failing.. nothing more.

when it came down to one game.. the kings were the better team.. plain and simple

excuses are for cowards and children

You trade a few pieces to try to shake things up. You don't 'blow it up', but just enough to send a message that the coaching staff is here to stay....

My point is very simple. Most people on here were saying THE SAME THINGS about RW a few years ago...this is a cyclical conversation with no end. And it seems everytime poop hits the fan with this team, leafsnation unanimously points the finger at the wrong group (mgmt/coaching). It's on the players. It has been since before RW was coach.

- Pen15

poop shouldn't have hit the fan this quickly, damn it

then we are stuck with only Reimer.
Not a chance.
Bernier is the future Number 1.

- Fakepartofme

uh, you missed the part where i traded Clarkson and Reimer to Vancouver for Luongo. *Slams door on Fakepartofme's attempt to cut down Reimer! Success.

If a 2nd/3rd liner going down sends a team into a losing streak something is wrong.

thats quite a problem then

Nonis thinks the core is fine and extends them, but the players are the problem, and have been now for 7 years and 2 coaches.

exactly

There will be no miracles when Bolland comes back.

He would be better off paying doctors not to clear him and just get the hell out of town.

how people arent grasping this yet is rather impressive... it was odd.. then unusual.. but now its gone all the way around to impressive.

he is even considered a backup.. one who is capable of being a starter.. but he is considered to be the number 2 now

if you keep making moves to build the team around carlyle, and carlyle's system sucks, (which we know it does) - its out dated - then what? you have already removed grabovski, macarthur, frattin, liles and whos next? reimer?

this team is being gutted because carlyle doesnt like player X,Y,Z

- big_dion

Out dated!
90% of the people on here loved his system last year and earlier this year.

Again, not disagreeing, its just funny how people flip flop.

Fraser admitted his mistake. I think its fair to say not having the best hockey player in the history of the world in the game might help the leafs

Oh then I'm in agreement. Just have to wait for the right deal though still.

Problem is what happens when you make that trade for another "Carlyle player" and it still doesn't help?
