I think he's going to want 4+. Probably even more.

And he won't be worth it.

Mac plays on the top line, every PP and every PK, and makes everyone he plays with better. He works his ass off and is dominant. He always has the puck. He is on pace for 61 pts because he is being utilized to his potential. Blame your system, not the player.
- Stringer74

What? he's some anchor that holds down lines and makes everyone better?

Why is this his fourth team then? How come the others didn't see such greatness?

No. The reason coaches send guys out to fight, is because they see their team's energy dropping, and they count on the fight to get guys going. Problem is, our 4th line isn't doing it's job. Not pummeling other teams, not forcing them to keep their heads up, and make snap decisions, not pissing them off. I liked last year's 4th line because they were actually in the games, not contributing on the scoreboard, but bringing a strong physical presence and being defensively responsible.

This year, they're invisible. Seriously, only 4th line moment I can remember is Orr trying to be a skill player and rush the net a few games ago.

when was the last time orr or mcclaren had a fight gluck

opposition coaches know those two are as tough as they come.. its not worth the risk

thats why there is always some middle weight trying to start poop (if its needed) when those apes arent on the ice.

sorry gluck.. but the days of the pure enforcer are coming to an end... i used to think differently.. but now.. they're unnecessary

they are relics just like carlyle.

No. With the Leafs, he killed so many scoring chances, it's not even funny. And he was always pretty confused as to what the defensive zone was.

If he was making players around him better, he would have been kept.

He was a good fit with Grabo and Kulemin for a couple of seasons. Rode their coattails to perfection.

unfortunately we have 5 hippos.

Franson being 1 yes...him on the ice with boots is better than Fraser

WTF is wrong with the putz..he can't even handle the puck for a millisecond.

Gleason doesn't look much better than Fraser...he was totally lost last night.

- Garnie

Give him a break - playing against his old team - emotions riding high
If he continues doing the same 15 games in - then he is fair game

By the looks of it, all the Leafs are having the same problem with the DZ. Grabo seems to be doing ok. Oh and how is Kulemin doing without them?

Guys guys. No need to get depressed and angry about the fortunes of the Leafs. Let's focus on something else.

I saw some of the games. Remember that corsi isn't some sort of magic bean. It just tells you which guys, and in what situations, control play. Over time (70+ games), skill will overcome luck, and corsi can predict future outcomes better than the 'eye test' or flipping a coin. Last year, your goalies were on fire. Your shot percentages were higher than team/player/league average, and yes, they had confidence. I'm not convinced this had anything at all to do with having fighters on the ice. Rather, I think it was in spite of them.
- Stringer74

So it's more logical to you that goalies across the league were coincidentally playing their worst hockey against the Leafs and that Reimer should have won the Vezina as opposed to the Leafs were getting into better shooting/scoring positions and keeping the other teams out of better shooting/scoring positions?

lol

he won't get it either...still RFA no?

he's playing himself into a pay cut or watching from home for a full year.

- Garnie

RFA, but he has arbitration rights.

Those never go well for the team.

I wouldn't count on Franson being a Leaf past the deadline.

Same with Kulemin, by the way. He is going to want more than he is worth (and he's a UFA).

Is it possible to trade Randy Carlyle for Dallas Eakins?

I still think Eakins is a good coach.
I feel he just doesn't have the right players in Edmonton.

Other than that, who's out there?

I don't know if the days of the enforcer are over, but the days of Orr and MacLaren are, unless they decide to play like they did last season.

I wouldn't have traded away Brown though.... guy's a good heart & soul middleweight.

And we don't have a worthwhile stache on this team anymore.

Gentle hint: when someone else points out an error in your post, don't dig yourself a bigger hole by making another absurd statement.

It's not my fault you are going to die a virgin. Go take out your frustrations elsewhere.

Not my post to begin with...but nice try sir

And best of luck to you! Your team is definitely on the right track.

Edmonton doesnt have the right players period. Bowman himself couldnt put them into a playoff spot.

In a few weeks we will be watching hockey without the goons or middleweights or pests - then we can compare that brand of hockey to Carlyle dressing 2 goons on the forward lines

what you describe is more on the coach imo.
but what do you expect from him anyways? he had 21, 20 and 16 (82 game pace) goals the 3 years.

you heard is comments on carlyle. We got Clarkson instead

Until they play we will have to say yes.

You know what grinds my gears? When Yzerman came out and said "our goal is to win a gold medal". No fricking way!!! Here I thought the goal was to simply be apart of the festivities. WHat other goal could the reigning Olympic gold medallists have?

Silliest thing to say.

The best example is when the habs lost 6-0 or something against the Leafs.

The game was already out of hand for Montreal and the habs players were frustrated... fights ensued.

It also illustrates that Montreal didn't lose that game because the Leafs were so tough. They lost because the Leafs had a big lead, nothing more. Proof of that? Montreal won the next game 5-2 or something like that.

Fighting doesn't scare any team or even "change momentum" as some like to pretend.

maybe Kule is worth more than you think.

he needs to be played on the 2nd line and 2nd line PP in front of the net.

he's only (frank)er that stays on his skates...the rest are pussies...trade em all!!!!!!!

Exactly. I looked it up on Hockey Fights in a post a few pages ago. McLaren has fought twice since November and not since Dec. 17. Orr hasn't fought since Nov. 30. It definitely looks like opposing coaches have picked up on how to render them useless, and for some reason RC hasn't realized and adjusted to this yet.
