Orr and McLaren were effective last year ...somebody needs to put a microphone in front of their face and ask them what the (frank) has changed ...what the (frank) is going on this year. - The Law
The problem is that throwing out multiple goons is a great strategy to rise above the dregs of the league - hell, it may get you to sneak into the playoffs.
It won't make you a serious contender, though. Ever (or at least not since the 1970s).
We have a blueprint to build a mediocre team.
Which is a shame, because we have a few talented parts at the moment. |

It's funny how the Leafs are the worst team in the league, yet they still sit one point above the Senators. |

According to Hockey Fights, 6 of the 30 came in game 1. After that, Lupul and Bodie have a few, Kessel and Kadri have one.
McLaren fought twice in Dec., none since Dec. 17th and Orr hasn't thrown the mitts since Nov. 30. It was business as usual at the start of the season (when they happened to be winning), but almost nothing since. |

1 Frazer McLaren 6
2 Colton Orr 5
3 Troy Bodie 3
4 David Clarkson 3
5 Mark Fraser 3
6 Joffrey Lupul 3
7 Carter Ashton 2
8 David Broll 1
9 Nazem Kadri 1
10 Phil Kessel 1
11 Dion Phaneuf 1
12 Jerred Smithson 1
Last year through 48 games the heavyweight trilogy of McLaren-Orr-Fraser had a combined 34 fights. This year through 45 games they have a combined 14. The other guys lose fights. Win fight = GoGo juice. Lose fight = passive skill players. |

I'm not ready to go there. - The Law
Believe you me I understand that, considering he's barely played. And if we can nab another signing in the summer I'd gladly have him on the third pairing with Gunner.
I'm more looking at it in the sense that he's here to stay, because I don't think we'll buy him out. |

And the most hits.
But supposedly, they aren't physical enough since Komarov left...
Weird, isn't it? - Pecafan Fan
Teams tend to rack up the hits when they don't have the puck. Hits in the 1st period last night were 16-3 in favour of Toronto. |

That's pretty telling. Why have they stopped? As a team, why have we stopped? It's hockey for god's sake. How hard can it be to find someone who wants/likes to fight? |

Those same stats inform us that Franson is a physical beast. He's Aki Berg with a fantastic point shot. |

Haha! It's so funny (frustrating) when someone tries to explain why a team is sucking, and then quantifies it, nobody wants to listen. The numbers say a lot. And these people collecting the numbers watch the games more closely and objectively than anyone else.
I'm sure we can all agree that you want players that can advance the puck up ice and create scoring chances. Right? Well, there are now ways to track and check what you see with your eyes. The metrics help. Don't be afraid. - Stringer74
That's not what Corsi tracks, Skippy. |

Im not ignorant I just rely on wins and losses, and well with 4 regulation wins in 31 games, its safe to say we're a bad team lol |

no it wouldnt
he was offered straight up for JVR two years ago and JVR has progressed into a better player since then
but its you.. and you'll never post anything that leans in the leafs favour.. so feel free to continue - Dozzer
That insistence on a deal having to lean in their teams favor is why deals don't get done anymore.
It's like GM's are afraid of not getting that little bit extra just so it looks like they won the deal. |
